883,609. Sliver conductors and guides. STEINWANDT, H. March 16, 1960, No. 9210/60. Class 120(1) In apparatus for winding cross-wound packages or cheeses 9 on draw frames or slubbing machines, sliver or slubbing 1, in its passage between a stationary entry guide member 5, adjacent feeding rollers 3, 3<SP>1</SP>; and a reciprocating exit guide member 6, passes through a unitary tubular, or around a unitary tubular or solid, elastic flexible component 7 or 10, or 13, 14 or 16, Fig. 7 (not shown), which may be bowed, as at 7<SP>1</SP> or 13<SP>1</SP>, or helically coiled, as at 10<SP>1</SP>. In the modifications shown in Figs. 5 and 6, members 5 and 6 mount guide eyes 11, 12, and 11<SP>1</SP>, 12<SP>1</SP>: alternatively, such members may be slotted, Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown). The elastic component may be rotatable about its longitudinal axis. The component is at least as long as the greatest distance between the gripping points of the sliver &c. at rollers 3, 3<SP>1</SP>, and at the rewinding roller 8 and package 9, and it deforms in order to compensate for variations in distance between these points during winding.
