Abstract

934,537. Winding machines. LEESONA CORPORATION. May 18, 1961 [May 19, 1960], No. 18118/61. Class 120 (2). In a winding machine in which the wound package 10 is brought to rest in the event of strand interruption and in which the strand traversing means 18 is continuously operative, the strand ends are placed in a strand uniting device 26 from which, after the ends have been united and whilst the package 10 is being brought up to speed, the united strand is passed by yarn guide means 28 to a first point on a supplementary yarn guide member 32 having means 34 for moving the strand therealong to a second point for a period of time enabling the package to attain its normal speed, whereafter the strand is released to the traversing means 18, both said first and second points being within the longitudinal confines of the traversing means 18. As shown, the traversing means 18 is a grooved drum that drives the package 10 and the supplementary yarn guide member 32 has helical grooves 34 and is rotatable about an axis 30a that is parallel to the axis 20 of the drum 18. During the speed build up period, the frictional contact of the strand with the helically grooved member 32 causes this member to rotate and thus move the strand to one end thereof (the right-hand end in the Figure) where it drops on to the traversing member 18.
