Abstract

942,902. Winding yarns. MONSANTO CHEMICAL CO. Aug. 31,1961 [Sept. 12, 1960], No. 31389/61. Heading D1D. A pair of bobbin supports 17, 20, Fig. 1, are pivotally mounted on one end of a single counterweighted arm 22 and, at the setting shown, the support 20 is at a ready position and the support 17 is at a winding position. The supports are interconnected by a releasable clutch such that when the bobbin 16 on the support 17 is full and the support 17 is swung downwardly to a doffing position, F. 2, the support 20 is automatically brought into the winding position so that winding may take place on the empty bobbin 18 carried by the support 20. The empty bobbin 18 has a notch in its surface that breaks the yarn connection with the package 14. When the bobbin 16 and package 14 have been removed from the support 17 and replaced by an empty bobbin, the clutch is released and the arm 17 is swung counter-clockwise until the empty bobbin is at the ready position previously occupied by the bobbin 18 in Fig. 1. The clutch is then re-engaged so that when the bobbin 18 in Fig. 2 is full and is swung down to its doffing position the empty bobbin 16 will be moved into the winding position. A driving drum 13 rotates the packages whilst they are being wound and the thread is traversed by a mechanism 12 of conventional construction.
