Abstract

1,059,345. Incinerators. K. R. MORTON. Nov. 22, 1963 [Nov. 22, 1962], No. 44286/62. Headings F4B and F4W. An incinerator comprises a secondary smoke combustion chamber 2, having an oil or gas burner 14, arranged to one side and above a main combustion chamber 1 which is provided with a fan 8 delivering primary and secondary air below and above a grate 6 respectively, additional primary air being supplied beneath the grate through apertures in the front of an ashpan which are regulated by a sliding plate 7. The flow of fan-supplied primary and secondary air is controlled by dampers 9 and 12, respectively, the secondary air being circulated between the refractory body and steel casing of the incinerator prior to being delivered preheated by ports 11 disposed in the upper region of the main chamber. A charging door 10, grate access door 13 and an ashpan 14 are provided in one side of the main chamber and a grit hopper 5 is disposed beneath the secondary chamber. The exhaust gases leaving the secondary chamber are mixed with cooling air entering the ports 15 before flowing through a duct 20 to a cylindrical casing 19 of a grit catcher 16. Said casing: houses a vertically mounted impeller .17 connected by a flexible coupling 24 to an electric motor 18 sealed at 25 and positioned between links 22 of the casing which is divided downstream of the impeller and which terminates in a chimney connection of an annular duct 22. Smoke particles precipitated on the casing fall through a grit trap 21 which may be connected to the hopper 5. Heat exchangers may be incorporated in the incinerator or chimney.
