Abstract

1,041,167. Sewing machines. H. G. C. FAIRWEATHER (SINGER CO.). June 8, 1965, No. 24074/65. Heading D1G. A device for holding a solid centre bobbin in a sewing machine bobbin winder comprises a chuck member having one face thereof encircled by a shallow cup-shaped flange for releasably gripping the outer periphery of an end flange of a bobbin, and means for connecting the chuck member to the extremity of a rotatable spindle of the chuck member. As shown, a rotatable spindle 22, journalled in a lever 17 and carrying at one end a rubber-tyred wheel 23 for driving engagement with the handwheel 14, has secured to its other end a chuck holder having a circumferential groove 26 and a knurled cylindrical portion 27. A chuck member, made from flexible material, is formed with a bore 30 engaging the knurled portion 27, a circumferential head 31 engaging the grooves 26, and a shallow up-shaped flange 32 releasably gripping one flange 33 of a bobbin 34. A pin 38 projects axially from the chuck holder to engage an abutment 37 provided in a recess 36 formed in the end face of the bobbin. In a modification, a lever carries at its free end a spindle journalling a structure comprising a rubber tyred driving wheel and a chuck holder.
