Abstract

700.750. Winding yarn. FOSTER MACHINE CO. June 23, 1950 [July 30, 1949], No. 15806/50. Class 120(2) The rotatable spindle 10 of a winding machine drives a hollow core 22 on which the package 32 is to be wound, the core being gripped by a rubber &c. ring'38 which is expanded by axial pressure between the coned face 42 of a sleeve 34, connected at 36 to the spindle 10, and the face 44 of a slidable member 46 moved axially of the spindle by balls 62 forced between coned faces of members 46, 30 by the movement of a sleeve 56 by a hand lever 66 mounted in a bracket 64 on the machine frame. In a further modification, Fig. 4, the spindle 110 is furnished with a cap 112 and a sleeve 118 between which is a rubber &c. ring 116. A further rubber &c. ring 120 is fitted between the sleeve 118 and the member 122. When the member 122 is moved axially by the balls 62, the rings 116, 120 are both compressed and expanded relatively to grip and drive the package core .126. The rubber rings may contain metal inserts 40, 136.
