Abstract

523,972. Spinning. SACO-LOWELL SHOPS. Jan. 18, 1939, Nos. 1722 and 1723. Convention dates, Oct. 15, 1938, and Dec. 19, 1938. [Class 120 (iii)] A bobbin for spinning, twisting and similar machines is provided with a resilient bushing mounted within the upper portion of the .tubular body of the bobbin and adapted mutually to engage the surface of the bobbins and the spindle to centre the bobbin on the spindle and a truncated conical metal washer is associated with the bushing at the lower end thereof for guiding the spindle into the bore of the bushing; the bushing is preferably of resilient material such as rubber or cork. As shown in Fig. 1, the bushing 6 is seated on the truncated conical metal washer 9 above a shoulder 10 in the bore of the bobbins and is held in place by a plug 8 cemented into the top of the bobbin. The bore of the bushing is preferably slightly larger than the diameter of the spindle 2 and the bobbin is driven by the frictional engagement thereof with a tapered foot 4 on the spindle supplemented by the yielding grip of the bushing 6. In a modification the bushing is relied upon for the driving of the bobbin or a second bushing may be disposed at the lower end of the bobbin to engage the tapered driving foot 4 of the spindle. The bushing at the top of,the bobbin may be removably held in the bore thereof by a split ring which may be disposed in a groove in the base of the bobbin. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprised a modification in which the bushing was secured in place by a metal washer forced into the bore of the bobbin above the bushing. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
