637,557. Twisting textile threads. FANE, G. W. R. Nov. 7, 1947, No. 29726. [Class 120 (ii] Double-twist spindle comprises a one piece shank or spindle proper having its upper end a<SP>2</SP> bored out to receive the thread k, a lower portion a formed with a seat for a ball or roller bearing b, and a hollow middle portion a<SP>1</SP> of larger diameter and formed with two diametrically-opposite slots a<SP>3</SP> for outward passage of the thread entering through the bored upper end. The hollow interior of the middle portion a' is curved or tapered at the end connecting it with the bore of the spindle. A driving pulley e with a rotating cup f may be seated on the enlarged middle portion a<SP>1</SP>, the boss of the driving pulley having diametrically opposite thread openings e<SP>1</SP> adapted to register with the slots a3. Alternatively, the rotating cup f may have a boss having diametrically opposite thread openings which register with the slots a<SP>3</SP>, the driving pulley e then being seated on the lower portion a of the spindle proper. The lower extremity of the spindle proper is reduced slightly in diameter to fit the bush c and is fitted with a silver-steel plug m which rests on the ball d forming the footstep bearing of the spindle.
