Abstract
274,927. Gaunt, J. S., and Dyson, H. March 27, 1926. Spindle apparatus. -Relates to spindles for spinning, twisting, and like frames, of the kind adapted to be used with a ring flyer and mounted upon the lifter rail in a bolster provided with a bearing at its upper end and a footstep allowing freedom of movement to permit a slight gyratory movement of the spindle, the bolster being cut away to expose the spindle so that drag may be applied thereto and the spindle being provided with a flange to prevent accidental removal. The spindles have pointed lower ends above which is a flange A<1> which may be removable; the upper bearing G' is detachably mounted in the bolster B and its lower part G<2>, in conjunction with the flange A', prevents accidental removal of the spindle; and the footstep F comprises a collar and a disc f capable of slight lateral movement. The top bearing is cut away at G<3> to allow the application of a pivoted drag member to the spindle, and the stop G<2> forms an abutment for a spring F<2> which controls the movement of the disc f. The footstep may be mounted on a plug screwed into the bottom of the bolster. The cup or flyer, which is mounted in ball bearings as described in Specifications 22982/08, and 102,316, is supported on a ring d<3>. The part of the spindle within the bolster is parallel and the part without slightly tapered.
