Abstract

372,384. Spinning spindles. PLANTROU, E., 1, Rue Dufay, Rouen, France. Jan. 3, 1931, No. 273. [Class 120 (ii).] A spinning spindle mounted in a tube, itself mounted in a bolster, with sufficient clearance between the spindle and tube to allow lateral movement of the spindle under vibratory forces, is combined with a resilient device, interposed in the support and spindle assembly and of such a strength, that the spindle can only yield transversely of its length, against the action of such device, when abnormal lateral pressure, such as that due to the withdrawal of the bobbin, which could not arise from working conditions, is applied to the spindle. In one form of the device the spindle is in two parts which are connected by a suitable resilient device such as a spiral spring or a resilient rod. In another form the lower section of the spindle 2 which fits with clearance in the tube 6, mounted in a support 1 secured to the rail 5 by a nut 4, widens at its upper end to form a table 7 on which rests the enlarged lower end of the other section of the spindle which is prolonged into bell form as shown in Fig. 2. A spring 12 held in place by the nut 11 secures the two spindle portions together. The spindle may be in one piece and the spindle support may be resiliently mounted, for example, on a plate spring one end of which is firmly fixed to the spindle rail, or by means of a spiral spring 20 surrounding the spindle support 1 and held between nuts 19 on this support and the underside of a guide ring 17 rigidly fixed in an opening 15 in the spindle rail 5.
