Spindle apparatus.-Spindles of the kind formed of two flexibly connected parts of which one carries the wharl and the other the bobbin, comprise a part 1, which carries the wharl, firmly supported in a fixed bearing and a part 4, which carries the bobbin, connected by flexible means such as a spring 5 adapted, without the aid of any extraneous support to maintain the part 4 in substantially co-axial alignment with the part 1 when at rest and to permit its automatic adjustment into its free axis when rotating at high speed, whereby all supporting springs or like external constraints are dispensed with. A fly-wheel 6 is mounted on the upper part and is provided with a bobbin support 7. A sleeve 3 is provided to prevent undue deflection at speeds below the critical speed, or abutment surfaces may be arranged adjacent the fly-wheel and may be adapted to prevent displacement of the spindle when removing the bobbin. If bobbins with large flanges are used the flywheel may be dispensed with.
