Abstract

909,294. Spinning &c. spindles. KEYSER, J. J. May 23, 1961 [May 25, 1960], No. 18493/61. Class 120 (2). In a spinning &c. spindle structure of the kind comprising a dead blade 18 and a coaxial stationary sleeve 6, respectively rotatably carrying members 21, 11, for supporting the upper and lower ends of a rotatable bobbin sleeve 2, the lower member 11 being driven, the position of the blade 18 with respect to the sleeve 6 can be varied to permit sleeves of different lengths to be used. In Fig. 1, the lower part of the sleeve is threaded and is secured to the spindle-rail 1 by a nut 14 ; it also carries a socket 15 accommodating the lower end of the blade. The lower end of sleeve 6 has an elastic ring 19 which can engage one of a number of grooves 20 in the end of the blade depending on the height of spindle required, additional rings 17 being provided in grooves in the inner wall of the socket. The upper member 21, Fig. 1a, is connected to the blade by a pin 22 with a head 23; the pin extends through a bushing 25 of the section shown, and the head rests on a plate 26 with a spherical seating, whereby the sleeve can adjust itself should the parts vibrate, and the member 21 is prevented from being withdrawn when the bobbin sleeve is doffed. The lower -member 11 is connected to parts the upper of two collars 8, 9 of a wharve 7 mounted to rotate on sleeve 6 ; it is convex in shape and carries a coupling 27 to transmit rotation to the sleeve 2 without preventing its withdrawal. A brake consisting of co-operating nuts 4, 5 and a handle 3 is provided. In Fig. 6, the blade is hollow and is connected to a rail 53 the position of which can be adjusted as desired; the blade has rotatably connected to it at 58 a sleeve carrier 57 on which the sleeve 2 is a driving fit while the upper wheel collar 12 is positioned outside the bobbin sleeve and carries an elastic ring 28 which is free of the carrier 57 but grips tightly when the sleeve 2 is interposed. The sleeve 6 is spaced from the blade, so that the rail 53 can be lowered carrying the blade and carrier 57 to a position at or below the collar 12 leaving the sleeve 2 with or without a wound package supported for easy removal on the ring 28. The rail 53 may be adapted as a scale-beam to ascertain the weight of a package ; to this end it is raised before and after winding until the parts 57 and 2 are supported just above the ring 28. In another form, Fig. 3 (not shown), the lower end of the blade is threaded, and is raised and lowered by rotating a worm and worm-wheel and in a further form, Fig. 4 (not shown), the sleeve 2 is mounted as in Fig. 1 and the blade as in Fig. 6 ; for donning and doffing the sleeve the rail 53 is lowered until the member 21 comes to rest on the member 11.
