Abstract

301,623. Airaldi, P. Nov. 4 1927. Spindle apparatus.-In spindle apparatus of the kind comprising a dead spindle carried in a lifting-rail, a stationary ring, and a rotary tube and wharl supported from the top of the dead spindle, the dead spindle is constituted by a tube S and serves as a reservoir for solid lubricant which when heated percolates through apertures S<6> and lubricates the wharl bearings. The lower end of the tube is closed by a plug S<2>, and the upper end by a coned member S adapted to engage a fibre bearing T' in the rotary tube T. The wharl is provided with a fibre bearing-washer W<1>, but may be provided with an inner fibre bearing. The Provisional Specification describes a short pointed solid dead spindle upon which a tube, serving as a support and reservoir as above described, is shrunk; a wharl comprising a central fibre boss with flanges and a fibre top closing- member for the rotary tube provided with a bearing for a ball carried by the closing-member of the stationary tube.
