Abstract

An expanding mandrel for winding, or unwinding foil, paper or textiles on hollow cores (8), (Fig. 2, not shown), comprises an elastic hose 2 arranged in a helical groove in a shaft 1 and having a valve 4 at one or, as shown, both ends, through which the hose is pneumatically inflated to expand above the shaft surface to grip and hold the core (8). The hose 2 may have one channel (as shown) or in Fig. 3 (not shown) two or more channels, the cross-section of which may be circular or square.
