787,614. Tyre building machine. CONTINENTAL GUMMI-WERKE AKT.-GES. Feb. 24, 1956 [May 9, 1955], No. 5874/56. Addition to 777,130. Class 144 (1). The tyre-building machine of the parent Specification is provided with a bead-positioning device 34, 35 movable axially of the tyre former 4 and comprising two concentric members 34, 35 which are relatively telescopic against the action of a resilient restraining force, such as a spring 38, the bead-ring 44, being located around the outer periphery of the inner member 35 against the end surface of the outer member 34. As shown, the outer member 34 is carried by radial arms 33 of a sleeve 32, which is slidable on the former spindle 3 and within the holding tube 2, and the inner member 35 is carried by arms 36 of a guide 37 slidable on the sleeve 32. In the bead positioning operation, axial movement of the inner member 35 is limited, to prevent damage thereby of the ply edges 11<SP>11</SP>, by abutment of the guide 37 against a ring 39 rigidly mounted on the spindle 3 to lie within the former 4, the ring 39 having adjustable former supports 43. Continued axial movement of the outer member 34 over the member 35 serves to lift the former 4 from its spindle 3, causing the ply edges 11<SP>11</SP> to'ride over a rollable helical spring 40 carried in a peripheral groove in the ring 39 and to be stitched thereby to the inner periphery of the bead-ring 44.
