Abstract

720,810. Chucks. TOBLER, R. J. March 13, 1953 [March 14, 1952], No. 7072/53. Class 83 (3). The gripping members 2 of an expanding mandrel for holding rotating or fixed tools or work are fitted in slots in a hollow cylindrical body 1 and are moved outwards by relative axial movement between the body and a central cone 3 having bearing surfaces 13, the gripping members being held in contact with the cone by a flexible ring 4 fitted in grooves in the gripping members. The cone 3 may be screwed on a push-pull rod 5 and may be tapered so as to expand the gripping members either when the rod is pulled or when it is pushed.
