Abstract

609,413. Chucks. KOCHER, O. March 13, 1946, No. 7855. Convention date, March 16, 1945. [Class 83 (iii)] An ejector for a chuck 4 is provided with gripping jaws 24 which are held on a bearing sleeve 19 by annular springs 25 and which are forced outwardly against the bore of the chuck by balls 22 lying in recesses 23 in the bearing sleeve, the balls themselves being forced outwardly by the displacement of a conical sleeve within the bearing sleeve. The ejector head 8 is mounted on a rod 8<SP>1</SP> whose travel is limited forwardly by a nut 17 and rearwardly by a stop nut 16. In operation, a sleeve 15, which is'formed with a conical surface 20, is screwed inwards while the bearing 19 is prevented'from rotating, thus forcing 'the balls 22 outwardly against the jaws 24 and locking the expeller in the chuck.
