Abstract

1417961 Reels I DUTTON 14 Nov 1972 [16 Aug 1971] 38306/71 Heading B8M [Also in Division F2] A spool for a typewriter ribbon or a sewing machine comprises two or more cantilevered leaf springs 5 to 8 of moulded plastics for gripping a spindle inserted into the socket of the spool, the free end portions 10 being connected to radial portions 9 and converging within the socket. The arrangement provides a spool to grip any size spindle from x to y diameter. The spool may be driven by a projection which engages in one of the spaces 11 between the leaf springs. The leaf springs may be moulded as a separate unit or integrally with the drum part 1. In a second embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), the spool is made in two halves which telescope together and which are secured against relative rotation by a spline (13).
