Abstract

1,069,589. Connecting reels to hubs. INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORPORATION. July 9, 1965 [July 13, 1964], No. 29204/65. Heading F2U. A hub for releasably carrying a magnetic tape or other reel comprises a housing 2 connected to a driven shaft, Fig. 3 (not shown), and having a cylindrical part and an -integral radial flange 5, and members 28, 29, 30 slidable in slots 18, 19, 20 in housing 2 being biased, by leaf springs 40, 41, 42 fixed to the housing and engaging pins 34, 35, 36 carried by members 28, 29, 30, into engagement via loosely carried balls 37, 38, 39 with a cam 48 freely carried by a part 57 of the driven shaft. An overcentre spring 65 biases the cam into two positions defined by slot 59 and a pin 8 fixed to housing 2 corresponding to the positions in which members 28, 29, 30 are projected into corresponding grooves in a reel or against a smooth inner surface of a reel and in which they are withdrawn. The cam is rotated by a knob connected to the cam by screws 67, 68. Each member 28, 29, 30 has a hooked end to prevent axial removal of the reel when they are moved radially outward; each member has an enlarged central portion guided in enlarged portions of slots 18, 19, 20, Fig. 2 (not shown).
