Thread-spool winding.-A unitary bobbin-winding attachment comprises a housing for fixing to the machine frame, a bobbin - carrying spindle slidably mounted in the housing, friction means movable between a retracted and a projected position for driving the spindle by engagement with a power-operated shaft of the machine, and releasable means for holding the friction means in the projected, operative, position. In the form shown a cylindrical housing 21, adapted to be secured by a set-screw in an aperture in the machine frame 18 adjacent to a shaft 19, carries a slidable sleeve 28 with a press-fitted bearing bush 30 wherein a spindle 36 rotates, the spindle having a flanged end 38 and being held by a retaining ring 46; the outer end of the spindle is split to receive and grip the bore of a bobbin 45, and its inner end has slidable in it a spindle 40 with a friction disc 39, relative rotation between the spindles being prevented by a cross-pin 42. A spring 43 presses the spindle 40 outwards so that when the sleeve 30 is in the position shown the disc 39 engages a resilient ring 47 fitted on the shaft 19, and the spindle 36 is driven for winding the bobbin; the sleeve is held in this position by a spring-pressed pivoted latch 48 engaging the large end of the sleeve, and when the latch is pressed back, either by hand or by the thread engaging a part of the latch when the bobbin is fully wound, a spring 58 presses the sleeve outwards from the housing to disconnect the drive and carry the bobbin outside an apertured cap 60 covering the end of the housing. An oil-receiving recess is provided in the top of the sleeve 28, communicating with the bearing surface of the bush.
