Abstract
A beta-titanium base alloy consists of one or more of the beta isomorphous elements Mo, V, Nb and Ta in amounts sufficient to retain the beta phase at room temperature on furnace cooling (but not in excess of 49.5%) 0.5 - 2.0% B the balance, apart from impurities, being Ti in an amount not less than 50%. One or more of the beta entectoid forming elements Cr, Cu, Ni, Co, Si, Mn and W may be included as a trace up to an amount less than that which will form grain boundary precipitates (e.g. a maximum of 5% for Cr, Cu, Fe, Ni and Co and 0.5% for Si). The alloys may also contain up to 8% Al and 0.6 - 1.5% C. but impurities such as O and N should be kept as low as possible. The alloys are preferably aged at their intended working temperature.
