In a device for tensioning a drafting belt 10 comprising a carrier 2 rotatably mounted on a bar 1, the resilient member for loading the carrier may be replaced without removing the carrier from the bar 1. As shown, the resilient member comprises a U-shaped spring 9 which at one end contacts a flat on the bar 1 and at the other end engages a pin 8 on the carrier. In an alternative form, a leaf spring clips on to the bar 1 which is provided with two non-parallel flats, while the other end of the spring engages a slot in a flange on the carrier. In a further form, an arm is keyed to shaft 1 and resilient means in the form of a compression spring or a tube or solid or hollow block of resilient plastics material, placed between the arm and a flange on the carrier. The belt engaging member may be a roller 6 as shown or a non-rotatable bar.
