Abstract

1,035,885. Winches; fairleads. BREEZE CORPORATION Inc. April 2, 1965 [April 8, 1964], No. 14088/65. Heading B8B. A guide sheave 15, Fig. 5, for a cable 17 of winch is coupled through a friction clutch 34, Fig. 6 (not shown), and gears to a driving motor 28 whereby the cable from the winch is maintained taut under all conditions. The apparatus is particularly adapted for use in an aircraft and includes a cartridge-operated guillotine 21 for severing the cable 17 in emergencies. The sheave 15 in combination with a pressure wheel 18 holds the severed end of cable 17 to prevent " whiplash." The sheave 15 is readily removable from the housing 10 by axial withdrawal of its central shaft 14 so that a new cable 17 may be reeved. Transverse slots (not shown) are also provided in guideways at the guillotine. The sheave 15 has a plurality of axial bores 25 containing resilient inserts 26 projecting into the cable groove to increase the frictional grip.
