917,980. End attachments for ropes. DAVIES, E. A. July 21, 1961 [Aug. 10, 1960], No. 27700/60. Class 109. In a wedge-type gripper 24, 26, Fig. 4, for a pit cage rope 22, a stop block 21 attached to the end of the rope 22 above the wedges 26 for engagement therewith in the event of slip, comprises a pair of elongated plates 5, 6, Fig. 2, with co-operating grooves 12 clamped to the rope by a plurality of screws 11. Recesses 9 are provided for the screw heads 10 and the screws are inserted through clearance bores 8 on the plate 6 to engage screw-threaded bores 7 in the plate 5. The edges of the plates 5, 6 are bevelled at 18, 19 so that the block 21 may be accommodated within the gripper assembly 24, 26. A plurality of circumferential recesses 13 with sharp gripping edges may be cut in the grooves 12.
