935,476. Rope end attachments. RELIANCE ROPE ATTACHMENT CO. Ltd. Aug. 10, 1961 [July 1, 1960], No. 23075/60. Class 109. A cable 1 is gripped by a number of cylindrical blocks 5, each block 5 having a tapered bore 7 accommodating a plurality of tapered wedges 6 projecting from one end of the block. As shown, the leading block 4A is forced against and end wall of a housing 2 and the remaining blocks 4B-4E abut against the projecting edges of the wedges 6 of the adjacent blocks. Alternatively, the blocks could all be inverted so that it is the projecting edges of the wedges 6 of block 4A that abut against the end wall of the housing 2. The angle of taper of a block and its associated wedge may be graduated from block to block, for example from a 30 degrees included angle for the upper block 4A down to a 10 degrees included angle for the lower block 4E. The wedges 6 may be relieved as at 8 to ensure positive engagement with the rope.
