A toy construction kit has bricks (1) of square cross-section having plugs (2) and sockets (8) for interconnection and grooves (3) for the insertion of the lugs (29) ,of frames (36) as filling elements. The edges of the frames are of length equal to or an integral multiple of the height of the bricks and the sizes of the various frames (25, 26, 27, 28) are related by a unit which is also equal to or an integral multiple of that height. The frames may also be provided with sockets (30) for direct interconnection of frames and may be adapted to receive plates or cover plates to fill in the area of the frame. Wheels and other filling and cover plates may be included.
