Abstract
1,028,938. Stoppers; bags with tear-away closures. MacBICK CO. Nov. 8, 1962 [April 25, 1962], No. 42242/62. Headings B8K and B8T. [Also in Division A5] A bag 10 is formed by a pair of flat flexible panels joined together along the side and bottom edges, the top edges defining an opening and being sandwiched between a pair of stiffer panels 20 which are sealed to one another and to the bag along part of the length of the opening, the portions of the stiffer panels not sealed to the bag being separated from the remainder of the stiffer panels by a tear line 26 so that they can be torn away to expose an opening 34. The bag comprises flattened polyethylene tubing which is closed at one end by a seal 14 and at the other end is sandwiched between closure panels 20 of polyethylene-lined cardboard, vinyl plastic or polystyrene. The closure panels extend beyond the bag where they are heat-sealed together. An adapter for connecting a delivery tube to the opening 34 is made of polystyrene and comprises a tubular member 36 having an apertured top end wall 38 through which the tube passes, the end of the tube being spaced from the tubular member. A flange 46 between the ends of the tubular member is reinforced with radial ribs and in use seats upon the opening 34, a slotted extension 54 of the flange then engaging the closure panels. The ribs are extended downwardly longitudinally of the tubular member to form fins 60 which define overflow channels 64 thus permitting the bag to overflow without contaminating the tube.
