Abstract

1,225,193. Packages formed from flat material. MIRA-PAK Inc. 15 July, 1968 [21 Dec., 1967], No. 33554/68. Heading B8C. A package is formed from flat material by joining opposite edges thereof by means of a longitudinal seal 11 to form a tube and sealing the ends of the tube by transverse seals 13, 14, gussets being formed in the sides of the package by ears 12; and is opened by separating the portions 20, 21 of the ears 12 (which are sealed to the seal 11 and to each other when the package is intact) and pulling the exposed end 22 of the seal 13 away from the remainder 23, after the seal 13 has been torn at notch 16, so that the package tears open at 24 and the ears 12 form a spout. The package may be indented at 24 or formed from an oriented plastics, to assist tearing at 24. The material of the package comprises four layers, from inside to out; heat-sealable polyethylene, aluminium foil, polyethylene, and " Cellophane " (Registered Trade Mark).
