Abstract

1,020,412. Inductors. THORN ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 5, 1964, No. 18674/64. Heading H1T. A choke comprises a stack of E-shaped laminations 15 (Fig. 2), an elongated coil having two straight side portions lying in the two slots in the stack and a further stack of laminations 17 joining the outer arms of the E-shaped stack 15 and spaced from the centre arm 29 by an air gap 28. The coil which is supported in the region of its curved ends by formers 21, 22 (Fig. 1, not shown) between which the E-shaped laminations are wedged may be provided with impregnated paper insulation surrounding eachwinding layer 11. The choke may be enclosed within a sheet metal casing 24, 25 which is subsequently filled with resin. A pair of each type of laminations may be punched from a rectangular sheet to limit wastage of material to four rectangular portions 31 (Fig. 3, not shown).
