Abstract

1,017,805. Rolling. SCHLOEMANN A.G. March 1, 1963 [March 9, 1962], No. 8381/63. Heading B3M. Apparatus in a roll stand for releasing jammed rolls includes, in a free space under at least one housing screw, two members having co-operating wedge surfaces in the form of inclined segments of circles. Between a housing screw 3 and an upper chock 2 are mounted two members 5 and 6 having co-operating wedge-shaped surfaces 10 and 11, formed in an annulus such that relative rotation of the members causes movement of the members towards or away from each other. Arms on the upper member 6 are provided with teeth 16 (Fig. 2, not shown) which co-operate with racks 25 and 26 which are moved by grind pressure operated pistons 23 and 24 to rotate member 6. Alternatively the arms may have pins which co-operate in slots in the pistons. An electric motor can replace the hydraulic system and drive the racks through differential gearing. A pressure measurer 63 can cause activation of the apparatus when a predetermined pressure is reached. The apparatus may be situated under the lower roll chock and may be used as a means of fine roll adjustment. Lubrication of the wedge surfaces is provided.
