Abstract
1429733 Rolling mill I PROPERZI 13 July 1973 [22 July 1972] 33624/73 Heading B3M [Also in Division F2] A safety device for a multi-stand rolling mill includes a workpiece outlet guide for the last stand of the mill, the guide separating from the stand housing when subject to a workpiece thrust greater than a predetermined value, thereby operating a switch to interrupt the drive to the stands. Each stand may be provided with a similar guide. In arc form, Fig. 4, the guide 25 is attached to the stand housing 23 by frangible bolts 27. If a workpiece is deformed such that it builds up in front of the guide, sufficient thrust is generated to break the bolts at pre-weakened sections, and to force the guide from the housing. This operates the finger 31 of a switch 30, and disconnects the drive between a motor 10, Fig. 1, and the gearing 13 for the stands 14. In a similar arrangement, Fig. 5, the guide 25 is held by a frangible pin 35 within a bush 33 rigidly secured to the housing 23.
