Abstract

1,009,977. Bearings. INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER CO. Aug. 30, 1963 [Sept. 13, 1962], No. 34379/63. Heading F2A. A bearing cap 15, having flat parallel surfaces 35 thereon, is received with clearance between flat parallel walls 26 of a web 21 which is integral with a crank case 10 of an internal combustion engine. The cap 15 is attached by studs 34 to the web 21 and has screw-threaded bores in the surfaces 35, the axes of the bores being at right-angles to the axes of the studs 34. The walls 26 of the web 21 are relieved at 23. By screwing studs 40 into the threaded bores, the clearance between the cap and web is taken up and the walls 26 nip the cap. Thus the parts are pre-stressed and the studs 34 may be relieved of stress. The clearance between the surfaces 35 of the cap and the walls 26 of the web may be made greater at 27. An oil-duct 36 is provided which terminates at a cam-shaft bearing and at a crank-shaft bearing.
