Abstract

569,581. Bolts, studs, &c. STEINLE, L. C., and HANWELL, C. H. Nov. 26, 1943, No. 19801. [Class 89 (i)] In order to render bolts, studs, &c. self locking the threads are formed with a portion of continuously varying pitch. The invention is particularly applicable to studs for use in aluminium, &c. crank cases. The leading end of the stud is furnished with say eight threads a of standard form followed by four threads b, c, d, e, of continuously decreasing pitch but of standard crest, root and effective diameter. If the stud is for an under compression then the threads b to e are of increasing pitch. The threads are generated as described in Specification 516,233, [Group XXII].
