Abstract
Le procédé permet de réaliser un joint entre objets faits de matériaux à coefficients différents de dilatation thermique. Ce procédé comprend en combinaison les étapes consistant à placer de l'indium, au moins sensiblement exempt d'impuretés, entre les surfaces nues des objets, lesquelles surfaces des objets doivent être assemblées et sont au moins sensiblement exemptes d'impuretés, et à exercer une pression sur les objets à la température ambiante, et d'une manière cyclique, en vue de comprimer l'indium situé entre eux, et en vue de réaliser le joint requis. Utilisation pour assembler des objets en verre ou céramique et des objets métalliques.
Description
La présente invention concerne des joints entre
objets faits de matériaux à coefficients différents de dila-
tation thermique, par exemple se rapportant à des scellements entre deux objets de verre ou céramique, ou entre un objet de verre, ou céramique, et un objet métallique. L'un des objets peut être en céramique de verre; et l'autre objet, à assembler avec le premier, peut être
en alliage de nickel et de fer.
Il est exigé habituellement que le joint à réali-
ser soit mécaniquement solide, et habituellement, mais non
essentiellement, il est exigé que le joint procure un scelle-
ment hermétique entre les deux objets.
Il est souhaitable qu'un tel joint soit apte à s'accommoder de toute différence de dilatation thermique entre les matériaux des objets à assembler Pour un tel
joint, il est connu d'y inclure un métal malléable, l'indium.
Un but de la présente invention est de fournir un procédé
nouveau et avantageux pour réaliser un tel joint.
Selon la présente invention, le procédé pour réaliser un joint entre objets faits de matériaux à coefficients différents de dilatation thermique consiste à placer l'indium, au moins sensiblement exempt d'impuretés, entre les surfaces nues des objets, lesquelles surfaces des objets doivent être assemblées, et sont au moins exemptes d'impuretés, et à exercer une pression sur les objets, à la température ambiante, et d'une manière cyclique, en vue de comprimer l'indium situé entre eux, et en vue de réaliser le joint requis. La pression maximum peut être exercée pendant
environ 20 secondes.
D'une manière appropriée, la pression exercée
peut-varier entre la pression maximum exercée, et approximative-
ment la moitié de sa valeur, d'une manière cyclique.
La pression maximum exercée peut être approximati-
vement de 15,5 x 106 Newtons par mètre carré.
La présente invention va maintenant être décrite
au moyen d'un exemple.
EXEMPLE
Un objet en céramique de verre, ayant un faible coefficient de dilatation linéaire de Oj O 3 x 106 par degré
Kelvin à 20 'C, est nettoyé et dégraissé par tout moyen connu.
Un second objet en alliage fer-nickel, ayant un faible coef-
ficient de dilatation linéaire de moins de 1 x 10-6 par degré Kelvin à 20 'C, est également nettoyé et dégraissé
par tout moyen connu.
Après avoir maintenus propres les deux objet-s, les objets sont assemblés dans un lavoir à secousses, avec une forme préalable d'indium, faite d'un fil d'1 millimètre
de diamètre, maintenu entre les surfaces des objets à as-
sembler La forme préalable d'indium qui est requise est produite immédiatement avant que les objets soient à assembler de sorte qu'il n'y a pas de pellicule superficielle d'oxyde
sur la forme préalable d'indium.
Dans des conditions ambiantes, ou dans toute atmos-
phère qu'il y a lieu d'enclore entre les deux objets, une pression maximum possible d'environ 15,5 x 106 Newtons par mètre carré est exercée sur les objets, le temps consacré à l'exercice d'une telle pression étant approximativement de 20 secondes La pression est alors réduite à la moitié de la pression maximum exercée, avant que la pression maximum soit à nouveau exercée, pendant environ 20 secondes Ce cycle est répété deux ou trois fois De cette manière, le joint requis est formé entre les deux objets Le joint est mécaniquement robuste; sur un joint de 1,3 millimètre carré, la force de rupture est de 1700 Newtons mais la malléabilité de l'indium garantit l'aptitude du joint à s'accommoder
de toute différence de dilatation thermique entre les maté-
riaux de ces objets Un scellement hermétique est réalisé
entre les deux objets.
L'indium ne s'allie pas avec les matériaux des

objets dans les conditions de mise en oeuvre du procédé selon la présente invention, même si les matériaux sont
susceptibles de s'allier dans d'autres conditions.
Un tel procédé selon l'invention pour réaliser un joint entre les deux objets est avantageux, car il ne requiert pas l'emploi de la chaleur, et il peut être appliqué dans des conditions ambiantes, ou dans toute atmosphère désirée. En outre, le procédé est d'une complexité moindre
que celle d'au moins plusieurs procédés connus de réalisa-
tion de tels joints, car les étapes du processus de nettoyage auquel on a recours sont moins complexes, et les surfaces coopérantes des parties constituantes de l'assemblage formé
avec le joint ne requièrent aucun traitement particulier.
Alors qu'on exige des surfaces coopérantes des-objets qu'elles soient au moins sensiblement planes, un joint satisfaisant peut être réalisé entre des surfaces rayées par le procédé conforme à la présente invention Si le scellement réalisé avec un tel joint est malencontreusement brisé, il peut être réparé en répétant sur le joint le procédé conforme
à la présente invention.
Le joint peut assembler plus de deux objets, et
les objets peuvent être faits de plus de deux matériaux.
Un tel joint peut être réalisé à propos d'objets faits d'autres matériaux que ceux ci-dessus décrits, les matériaux des objets assemblés avec chacun de ces joints ayant des coefficients différents de dilatation thermique; par exemple, le joint assemblant deux objets de verre, ou *de céramique, ou de métal, ou un objet entièrement en verre ou céramique et un objet-métallique La céramique peut être faite de silice ou d'alumine Le métal peut être du laiton,
du cuivre, de l'aluminium, de l'acier, de l'or ou de l'argent.
Diverses modifications peuvent être apportées
au procédé ci-dessus décrit.
La pression maximum qu'il y a lieu d'exercer varie avec les matériaux des objets à assembler Par exemple, pour un objet en or et un objet en céramique, la pression maximum est de 8 x 106 Newtons par mètre carré Autrement, quand un objet est métallique, la pression maximum est dans l'échelle de 13 à 18 Newtons par mètre carré Ajoutons que pour toute combinaison particulière des matériaux des objets à assembler, si la pression maximum exercée est inférieure à la pression maximum qu'il y a lieu d'exercer, un joint satisfaisant, mécaniquement robuste, peut être obtenu, mais un tel joint ne peut procurer un scellement hermétique entre
les objets, qui puisse être considéré comme acceptable.
Claims (4)
1 Procédé pour réaliser un joint entre objets faits de matériaux à coefficients différents de dilatation thermique, caractérisé en ce qu'il comprend, en combinaison les étapes consistant à placer de l'indium, au moins sensiblement exempt d'impuretés, entre les surfaces nues des objets, lesquelles surfaces des objets doivent être
assemblées, et sont au moins sensiblement exemptes d'impu-
retés, et à exercer une pression sur les objets, à la température ambiante et d'une manière cyclique, en vue de comprimer l'indium situé entre eux, et en vue de réaliser
le joint requis.
2 Procédé conforme à la revendication 1, carac-
térisé en ce que la pression maximum est exercée pendant
environ 20 secondes.
3 Procédé conforme à la revendication 1 ou 2, caractérisé en ce que la pression exercée varie entre la pression maximum exercée et approximativement la moitié
de sa valeur, d'une manière cyclique.
4 Procédé conforme à l'une quelconque des
revendications précédentes, caractérisé en ce que la
pression maximum exercée est approximativement de 15,5 x 106
Newtons par mètre carré.
