Abstract

L'invention concerne la préparation d'ébauches de fibres optiques. Elle se rapporte à un procédé de préparation d'ébauches par incorporation d'une tige à un tube, le tube s'affaissant par chauffage contre la tige Selon l'invention, avant l'opération d'affaissement du tube, un agent de traitement de la surface du verre et de l'oxygène gazeux circulent dans l'espace délimité entre la tige et le tube, à température élevée. L'agent de traitement a d'une part une teneur en hydrogène inférieure à 1 % en poids environ, et forme d'autre part, en présence d'oxygène gazeux à température élevée, des substances dont la température d'ébullition ou de sublimation n'est pas supérieure à la température utilisée pour l'affaissement du tube. Application à la fabrication en grandes quantités de fibres optiques ayant de faibles pertes.
