Hoja receptora de tinta para uso como material de
grabación.
La presente invención se refiere al uso de una
hoja de grabación en un procedimiento de impresión digital sobre una
prensa de impresión digital, y en particular usando el procedimiento
de impresión digital Indigo^{TM}, que implica la transferencia de
tóner líquido a la hoja de grabación por electrofotografía.
La prensa digital Indigo fabricada por Indigo NV
requiere superficies especiales de papel para permitir completar la
transferencia de tóner/tinta desde la mantilla de impresión al
papel. Dicha transferencia completa es esencial para permitir la
impresión de información variable sobre hojas sucesivas.
Se sabe que los papeles de impresión revestidos
con pigmento comercialmente disponibles satisfacen al 100% los
requisitos de la transferencia de tóner, sin embargo por motivos de
estética y de coste los impresores desean utilizar papeles con
aspecto no revestido. Por ejemplo, un papel traslúcido o
semitraslúcido reduciría su translucidez mediante revestimiento de
pigmentos; los papeles revestidos son frecuentemente brillantes; la
textura de superficie de un papel no revestido parece más
natural.
Se han desarrollado dos procedimientos para
tratar papel y hacerlo apropiado para la prensa Indigo. Uno
desarrollado por Indigo NV y descrito en la solicitud de patente
internacional WO96/06384 se conoce comercialmente como el
tratamiento Zafiro e implica tratar el papel con polietilenimina. El
desarrollado por Arjo Wiggins y descrito en el documento EP 0879917
A2 implica el uso de un tratamiento de superficie que incluye una
sal aluminato o una sal de un ácido débil/base fuerte para hacer
que la superficie sea alcalina.
Un objeto de la presente invención es
proporcionar un papel o una gama de papeles de aspecto no revestido
que son apropiados para usar sobre una prensa Indigo y también en
otros procedimientos digitales y no digitales, y que tiene también
una mayor vida útil.
La presente invención se caracteriza por el uso
de una hoja de grabación en un procedimiento de impresión digital
sobre una prensa de impresión digital; en el que el procedimiento de
impresión digital es un procedimiento que implica la transferencia
de tóner líquido a la hoja de grabación por electrofotografía y la
hoja de grabación incluye un sustrato de papel que contiene una
carga mineral insoluble, incluyendo dicha carga trihidrato de
aluminio.
Ventajosamente, el sustrato de papel contiene
entre 50 y 400, preferiblemente entre 100 y 300, más
preferiblemente aproximadamente entre 200 partes en peso seco de
trihidrato de aluminio y 800 partes en peso seco de pasta
papelera.
Ventajosamente, la hoja de grabación tiene un
tratamiento de superficie que incluye sulfato de magnesio y
polivinilpirrolidona. El tratamiento de superficie se puede aplicar
al papel a una relación de 2 a 4 g/m^{2}.
Ventajosamente, la hoja de grabación tiene un
tratamiento de superficie que incluye almidón y poli(alcohol
vinílico). El tratamiento de superficie puede incluir un agente
abrillantador óptico. El tratamiento de superficie se puede aplicar
al papel a una relación de 1 a 2 g/m^{2}.
Ventajosamente, la hoja de grabación tiene un
tratamiento de superficie que incluye un metal soluble o insoluble
de los grupos II y III o metales de transición de la tabla
periódica.
Ventajosamente, la hoja de grabación es
sustancialmente opaca.
Se ha descubierto que tres cosas funcionan
particularmente de manera eficaz.
- 1.-
- El papel traslúcido con un tratamiento de superficie de polivinilpirrolidona + sulfato de magnesio + agente de apresto sintético Baysynthol KSN.
- 2.-
- El papel opaco con una carga mineral insoluble de trihidrato de aluminio (Martifill) y un tratamiento de superficie de polivinilpirrolidona + MgSO_{4}.
- 3.-
- El papel opaco con una carga mineral insoluble de trihidrato de aluminio y un tratamiento de superficie de papel convencional, por ejemplo almidón más poli(alcohol vinílico).
Las fórmulas 2 y 3 anteriores comprenden
realizaciones ejemplares de la invención.

El tratamiento de superficie en las fórmulas 1 y
2 es el mismo que el reivindicado para el chorro de tinta basado en
pigmentos sobre papel traslúcido, descrito en la patente GB 2 301
845 B, cuyo contenido se incorpora como referencia a la presente
memoria descriptiva. La fórmula 2 también incluye trihidrato de
aluminio como carga en la base, además del tratamiento de
superficie.
Parece ser que el Baysynthol no es esencial para
el procedimiento Indigo. La idoneidad del papel para su uso en el
procedimiento Indigo parece depender bien de la presencia de un
catión de metal soluble (Mg^{2+}) en la superficie o una carga de
ácido de Lewis (Al(OH)_{3}) en la base o un polímero
ligeramente "pegajoso" tal como polivinilpirrolidona o
poli(alcohol vinílico) en la superficie del papel. Se
sospecha que los metales de los grupos II o II son la clave. Se
requiere investigar más este aspecto de la invención. La presente
invención se refiere particularmente a la segunda de las tres
posibilidades.

El apresto del copolímero de estireno no es
esencial en la formulación de la fórmula 2 (papeles opacos) pero se
necesita en la fórmula 1(papeles traslúcidos).

Las posibles variantes incluyen almidón
catiónico, otros almidones, diferentes PVOH.
Para un mayor brillo de hoja, se puede incluir un
agente abrillantador óptico (AAO) en el tratamiento de superficie.
El solicitante ha descubierto que es ventajoso dividir el
tratamiento de superficie en dos aplicaciones: a) almidón más
poli(alcohol vinílico) más AAO y a continuación b) sulfato de
magnesio más polivinilpirrolidona. El efecto de esto es la
separación de la aplicación de AAO y sulfato de magnesio, los
cuales pueden reaccionar el uno con el otro e interferir mutuamente
con la función deseada de cada uno.
A continuación se describe un ejemplo de un
procedimiento para fabricar una hoja de grabación según una
realización preferida de la invención. Se elabora una suspensión de
pasta de papel a partir de 800 partes en peso seco de pulpa
química blanqueada comercial y 200 partes en peso seco de trihidrato
de aluminio Martifill P2 (disponible en Martinwerk GMBH). A esto se
añaden 2 partes en peso seco de alquilceteno dimero para servir
como agente de apresto interno. Los adyuvantes de retención,
colorantes y agentes abrillantadores ópticos también se pueden
añadir para conseguir el procedimiento particular de fabricación de
papel y la estética de papel deseada.
La suspensión de pasta de papel se formó en una
banda de papel sobre una máquina de fabricación de papel
Fourdrinier. También servirían otras más antiguas.
Se aplicó una primera aplicación de superficie al
papel que comprendía una mezcla acuosa de 50 partes (en parte en
peso seco) de almidón de patata oxidada Amilox P45 (disponible en
Avebe b.a.) y 25 partes de poli(alcohol vinílico) Gohsenol
GL05 (disponible en Nipón Gohsei). A esto se puede añadir un agente
abrillantador óptico para conseguir las propiedades estéticas
deseadas del papel. Esta mezcla se aplicó al papel a una relación
de entre 1 g/m^{2} y 2 g/m^{2}.
Se aplicó una segunda aplicación de superficie al
papel que comprendía una mezcla acuosa de 75 partes (en partes en
peso seco) de sulfato de magnesio y 25 partes de
polivinilpirrolidona Luviskol K90 (disponible en BASF GMBH). Esta
mezcla se aplicó al papel a una relación de entre 2 g/m^{2} y 4
g/m^{2}.
El papel acabado tenía un atractivo aspecto no
revestido y se descubrió que daba buenos resultados sobre la prensa
de impresión digital Indigo, así como en la prensa de impresión
digital Xeikon y con impresoras litográficas, de chorro de tinta,
láser mono y color y estilográficas. El papel tiene por lo tanto
una aplicabilidad universal.
Claims (9)
1. Uso de una hoja de grabación en un
procedimiento de impresión digital sobre una prensa de impresión
digital, en el que el procedimiento de impresión digital es un
procedimiento que implica la transferencia de tóner líquido a la
hoja de grabación por electrofotografía y la hoja de grabación
incluye un sustrato de papel que contiene una carga mineral
insoluble, incluyendo dicha carga trihidrato de aluminio.
2. Uso de una hoja de grabación según la
reivindicación 1, en el que el sustrato de papel contiene entre 50 y
400, preferiblemente entre 100 y 300, y más preferiblemente
aproximadamente entre 200 partes en peso seco de trihidrato de
aluminio y 800 partes en peso seco de pulpa.
3. Uso de una hoja de grabación según una
cualquiera de las reivindicaciones anteriores, en el que la hoja de
grabación tiene un tratamiento de superficie que incluye sulfato de
magnesio y polivinilpirrolidona.
4. Uso de una hoja de grabación según la
reivindicación 3, en el que el tratamiento de superficie que incluye
sulfato de magnesio y polivinilpirrolidona está aplicado al papel en
una relación de 2 a 4 g/m^{2}.
5. Uso de una hoja de grabación según cualquiera
de las reivindicaciones anteriores, en el que la hoja de grabación
tiene un tratamiento de superficie que incluye almidón y
poli(alcohol vinílico).
6. Uso de una hoja de grabación según la
reivindicación 5, en el que el tratamiento de superficie que incluye
almidón y poli(alcohol vinílico) incluye un agente
abrillantador óptico.
7. Uso de una hoja de grabación según la
reivindicación 5 ó 6, en el que el tratamiento de superficie que
incluye almidón y poli(alcohol vinílico) está aplicado al
papel en una relación de 1 a 2 g/m^{2}.
8. Uso de una hoja de grabación según cualquiera
de las reivindicaciones anteriores, en el que la hoja de grabación
tiene un tratamiento de superficie que incluye un metal soluble o
insoluble de los grupos II y III o los metales de transición de la
tabla periódica.
9. Uso de una hoja de grabación según cualquiera
de las reivindicaciones anteriores, en el que la hoja de grabación
es sustancialmente opaca.
