Definitions
- the invention relates to a method for moisture-proof covering a joint between an insulated conductor consisting of individual wires electrical conductor and a metal contact element, with which the conductor is first exposed at its end by removing the insulation, with which subsequently stripped End of the conductor is electrically conductively connected in the connection point with the contact element and with which finally a cover made of insulating material is applied to the connection point between the conductor and the contact element.
- Such a method has been well known for years. It is used wherever an electrical contact point is to be protected from moisture.
- the individual wires made of flexible conductors are referred to in the following as "stranded".
- As the electrically conductive material of such strands in particular copper and aluminum and alloys of these materials are used.
- a field of application for the strands is, for example, the engine compartment of motor vehicles.
- moisture and other environmental influences and vibrations must be considered.
- a protective body made of insulating material is injected around a connection point in an injection molding tool.
- a hose made of shrinkable material which is coated on the inside with sealing material, is pushed over a connection point which, after being heated, lies tight against its base.
- Both methods are not only expensive, but they can not ensure the required seal also, because neither the spray material of the protective body nor the sealing material of the hose sufficiently deep between the individual wires of the strand penetrates.
- a gap existing between the conductor and its insulation is not sealed in either method, so that moisture which has entered the joint can also penetrate in the longitudinal direction of the conductor. It may then cause a short circuit at the far end of the conductor and cause corrosion in the joint, which can quickly destroy it.
- the invention has for its object to make the method described above so that an effective seal the connection point between the strand and contact element is achieved against moisture.
- an initially flowable sealing material is applied in sufficient quantity to the connection point between the strand and the contact element, in particular the strand, which penetrates into the strand due to its viscosity.
- the sealing material is applied in such an amount that it extends beyond the insulation of the strand, so that the gap between the strand and insulation is closed by the sealing material. In this case, the sealing material penetrates, at least over a short distance, into the gap between the strand and the insulation surrounding it.
- the sealing material also extends beyond the contact element, so that the connection point is completely covered moisture-tight from above. This is made possible or completed by the foil arranged below the connection point and resting against the insulation of the strand and the contact element, which serves as a boundary for the sealing material. It bonds firmly with the sealing material, so that a closed around the junction and after curing the sealing material stable sealing body results. Overall, it effectively seals the joint against moisture.
- a spatially limited spacer can be attached between the contact element and the film.
- the sealing material then also attaches to the contact element from below.
- Fig. 1 is an electrical line L shown, which consists of a strand 1 and a same surrounding insulation 2.
- the strand 1 is according to Fig. 2 constructed of a plurality of individual wires 3, which are preferably twisted together or twisted.
- the individual wires 3 may consist, for example, of copper or of aluminum or of a copper alloy or an aluminum alloy.
- the insulation 2 may for example consist of polyethylene or polyurethane. It is according to Fig. 1 removed at the end of the line L, so that the strand 1 is exposed there and can be used for direct connection to electrical contacts or electrical contacts.
- the stranded wire 1 is electrically connected to a contact element 4 made of metal, which belongs to any electrical device 5, which is indicated only schematically.
- the contact element 4 may be, for example, a flat strip with a rectangular cross-section. It can also have a different geometric shape.
- the strand 5 is summarized at its free end with advantage and compressed with advantage that no individual wires 3 protrude sideways.
- the strand 1 with the contact element 4 is electrically conductive connected, for example, soldered, but advantageously welded.
- the compacting and soldering or welding of the stranded wire 1 to the contact element 4 can also be carried out in only one operation.
- dashed edge ram V goes out schematically Fig. 3 out.
- Such a joint V is covered by the method according to the invention, for example, moisture-tight as follows:
- a film 6 of insulating material is applied from below to the connection point V or the connection point V is placed on the film 6.
- the film 6 abuts both the insulation 2 of the line L and the contact element 4. It protrudes with advantage on all sides beyond the actual connection point V between the strand 1 and contact element 4 addition.
- materials for the film 6 for example, polyethylene terephthalate, polyurethane, polyvinyl chloride, polyamide and polyethylene are suitable.
- a first flowable sealing material is applied from above to the joint V, preferably directly to the strand 1.
- a sealing material are, for example, polyvinyl chloride, polyurethane, polyamide, silicone rubber and fluorinated ethylene propylene and Perfluoralkoxypolymer. It can consist of only one material, but also be designed as consisting of two different components existing material.
- the flowable sealing material penetrates between the individual wires 3 of the strand 1. It is trapped in its downward movement by the film 6, so that it can spread only in the joint V itself and around them.
- the sealing material penetrates at least over a short distance in the between Litz 1 and insulation 2 of the line L existing circumferential gap, which is thereby closed.
- the sealing material extends finally on one side to the insulation 2 of the line L and on the other side to over the contact element 4. It cures after its application relatively quickly, so that a mechanically stable sealing body 7 results, which is the connection point V effectively seals against moisture.
- Fig. 4 can be mounted between the film 6 and the contact element 4, a spacer 8, and that before applying the Sealing material.
- the spacer 8 has a relation to the surface of the contact element 4 smaller area.
- the sealing material can also spread between the contact element 4 and the foil 6, so that the contact element 4 is almost completely enclosed by the sealing material in the region of the connection point 4.
- the existing of any material spacer 8 may for example be designed as a disc or consist of ribs, which can be arranged or mounted on the same before mounting the film 6 to the insulation 2 of the conductor 1 and the contact element 4 on the same.

Abstract
Description
Fig. 4 eine Einzelheit ausFig. 3 in vergrößerter Darstellung. - In
Fig. 3 hervor.
