Definitions
- the present invention relates to an egg carrier for use in a refrigerator, in particular for insertion in a door rack of a refrigerator.
- Egg carriers of this type are conventionally injection molded parts made of plastic with a carrier plate in which a plurality of receptacles for each egg is formed. These shots are usually in the form of shells that surround an egg at its lower end. The lower end is isolated and less cooled than the upper area of the egg protruding from the shell.
- Egg carriers are known in which a stiffening vertical circumferential web is formed on the circumference of a flat carrier plate into which the shells are recessed. Egg carriers of this type can be stacked in a refrigerator to save space, with the lower edge of the web of one egg carrier resting on the top of another's plate and the shells of both interlocking.
- the interlocking shells form a double-walled insulation for the lower region of an egg housed in the upper egg carrier, so that the stacking further limits the quality of the cooling.
- the width of the egg carrier is usually adapted to the depth of a door rack for which it is intended.
- An egg carrier loaded with eggs can therefore generally only be removed from the refrigerator by gripping it on one narrow side or, if accessible at all, on both narrow sides.
- Ambidextrous handling is only possible if the egg carrier is not at one longitudinal end of the door rack or can be moved so far from there before removal that there is room for a second hand between the longitudinal end and the egg carrier. However, this requires that there is enough space in the door rack to move the egg carrier, which is not always the case.
- a first object of the present invention is to provide an egg carrier for a refrigerator which enables effective cooling of the lower area of each ice stored therein.
- these wall sections are each arranged above the circumference of the support plate, in such a way that a section of the circumference of the support plate, on which an upright wall section is arranged above the circumference, diametrically opposite a section of the circumference on which none Wall section is arranged.
- the wall sections of an egg carrier engage in the recesses of the other egg carrier.
- a concomitant reduction in the free cross-section can be kept low if two egg carriers with different height of the wall sections are used and the one with the low wall sections is stacked on the one with the high wall sections.
- spacers can be provided on the underside of the carrier plates of the egg carriers, which prevent the carrier plates of stacked egg carriers from approaching too closely.
- a second object of the present invention is to provide an egg carrier for a refrigerator which, when loaded with eggs, can be removed and handled comfortably and safely from the refrigerator.
- a handle protrudes from the carrier plate of the egg carrier according to the invention above its center of gravity.
- a user grips the egg carrier on this handle, he only has to compensate for a torque if the eggs are distributed unevenly in the egg carrier.
- an evenly loaded egg carrier especially if the distribution of the receptacles is symmetrical with respect to the handle, the user needs no torque to compensate at all to keep the carrier plate horizontally oriented when lifting the egg carrier so that the eggs remain securely held in it.
- an opening is preferably formed in the carrier plate, through which a handle of a second, preferably identical, egg carrier can be carried out. This makes it possible to stack the egg carriers when one of them is not in use, so that both can remain in the refrigerator and a user is not forced to look for the second egg carrier somewhere else if he wants to use it again ,
- the handle has the shape of a plate and that a surface of the plate is immediately adjacent to the opening.
- the surface comes to lie on a corresponding surface of the handle of the other egg carrier, so that a user can comfortably grip both handles as a unit and thus remove both egg carriers in a stacked form.
- the plate is thickened in its upper area.
- Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a single egg carrier according to the invention
- Fig. 2 is a perspective view of two egg carriers of the type shown in Fig. 1, in a stacked configuration;
- FIG. 3 shows two stacked egg carriers according to a modification of the invention.
- the egg carrier shown in Fig. 1 is a one-piece injection molded part made of plastic with a flat, rounded rectangular support plate 1, in which an even number of receptacles, here in the form of openings 2, for receiving eggs is formed.
- a handle in the form of a rectangular plate 3 protrudes from a central area of the carrier plate 1, above a center of gravity of the egg carrier.
- the plate 3 has a flat side surface immediately adjacent to a slot-shaped opening 5 with the width of the plate 3 or a slightly larger width.
- a bead 6 is formed in the upper region thereof, which facilitates gripping the plate 3 with the fingers.
- the wall sections 7 are over the circumference 8 of the carrier plate 1 distributed. They each protrude beyond the circumference 8, the course of which is indicated as a broken line at the wall sections 4.
- the wall sections 7 are each arranged diametrically opposite a section of the circumference 8 on which no wall section is formed. These recesses or gaps 11 are each slightly wider than the diametrically opposite wall section 7.
- FIG. 2 shows two egg carriers of the type shown in FIG. 1 stacked one on top of the other.
- the plate 3 of the lower egg carrier 10 extends through, which is rotated by 180 ° relative to the upper one.
- the openings 2 for receiving the eggs are congruent in the two egg carriers 9 and 10, so that the usability of the upper egg carrier 9 is not impaired by the stacking.
- the wall sections 7 of the lower egg carrier 10 each engage with a slight lateral play in the gaps 11 between the wall sections 7 of the upper egg carrier 9.
- the carrier plate 1 of the upper egg carrier 9 rests on that of the lower 10, and the wall sections 7 of the lower egg carrier 10 stand on a base, not shown, while those of the upper egg carrier 9 are spaced from the base by the thickness of the carrier plate 1.
- the meshing of the wall sections 7 and the plate 3 prevents the egg carriers 9, 10 from slipping against one another. Gaps remain between the lower edges of the wall sections 7 of the upper egg carrier 9 and a flat standing surface (not shown), which allow an exchange of cold air between the space below the carrier plates and the surroundings.
- the height of this column if the two egg carriers 9, 10 are identical, would correspond to the thickness of the carrier plate 1 of an egg carrier.
- 1 spacers e.g. in the form of knobs 12, as shown in FIG. 3, or webs, which prevent direct contact of the carrier plate 1.
- the two egg carriers may not be identical, but may have different heights of the wall sections 7, the egg carrier with the lower wall sections having to be stacked on top of the higher ones.
- the wall sections 7 of the one can also engage in the recesses 11 of the other if wall sections 7 and recesses 11 are not diametrically opposed to one another on an individual egg carrier 9 or 10.
- a user who wants to remove the egg carriers from a door rack can comfortably grasp the beads 6 of both plates 3, press the plates 3 against one another and remove the two egg carriers 9, 10 together in the stacked configuration.
- the handling of the stack of egg carriers 9 and 10 is therefore just as easy and convenient as that of an individual egg carrier.
- the openings 2 for receiving the eggs can also be replaced by shells; in this case there is a latching of two stacked egg carriers together on the one hand by the plate 3 of the lower egg carrier, which passes through the opening 5 of the upper, and on the other hand by the intermeshing of their receiving shells.
- the wall sections 7 are not absolutely necessary in this modification, since the undersides of the shells can serve as a base for the egg carrier.
