- blades and inkwells are used mainly in intaglio printing machines in which the amount of ink that is applied to the cylinder inkwell is important to properly ink sizes of printing plates.
- the DD 110 patent 632 shows an inkwell whose bottom has a blade which is close to the circumference of the inkwell cylinder.
- the blade is elastically deformed by screws that apply against the blade, on the other side of this one with respect to the inkwell cylinder.
- the blade of the inkwell is formed by several adjacent lamellae that can be elastically deformed in order to modify the thickness of the ink applied to the cylinder of the inkwell.
- This system has several disadvantages, including fact that the deformation of the lamellae occurs in direction of the cylinder of the inkwell. So, in case of error of manipulation, there is a risk that the blade will enter contact with the cylinder and damage. The deformation of blades also causes fatigue of the material that can create problems of premature wear.

- the inkwell features also a reference stop 5 adjustable by screws 6, closing side walls 7 and a flap of 8.
- the closing walls are known in the state of the art, for example EP 1 022 138 whose contents are incorporated by reference for this which concerns these side walls of inkwell.

Indeed, that despite very close tolerances between sectors, ink passed between these sectors which causes imprecise dripping and inking.
- the use of a blade such as the blade 11 makes it possible to keep a continuous edge and, therefore, improve inking.
- the adjustment of the ink thickness is carried out manually by screws 13 (there is one by segment) whose distal end leans directly below each segment 2.
- the screwing of the screws 13 allows, by deformation of the respective segment 2 with respect to the blade holder 1, to modify the distance of the upper edge of said segment relative to the inking cylinder and, by therefore the edge of the ceramic blade 11.
- a deformable plastic material between sectors for improve the seal between them.
- the ceramic blade 11 comprises tapping rods which enter the holes 9 of the blade holder 1 (see Figure 1) which allows its attachment to the blade holder 1 so fixed by screwing, the screws being introduced from below of the blade holder 1.
- the inkwell is of a different type from that of the first mode.
- adjusting the thickness of the ink was carried out manually by acting on screws 13 (see Figure 2) and forcing the displacement of the sectors 2.
- the inkwell is of the type known as "Colortronic TM" (marketed by the Koenig & Bauer AG) in which the sectors define the thickness of the ink are actuated so automatic rotation on an axis. So, there is no deformation of sectors with respect to the blade holder in this fashion.

- sectors 22 On the side of the blade holder 20 which is close to the inking cylinder (not shown) are sectors 22 that allow to adjust the thickness of inking.
- this system works according to the machine known as "Colortronic MC" in which sectors 22 are mounted on an axis 23 and are moved in rotation automatically to adjust the thickness of the ink on the inking cylinder.
- a blade 21 has been placed which covers the sectors 22 according to the principle of the invention. So, this is the slice of this blade 21 that adjusts the thickness of the ink continuously along inkwell, and no longer independent sectors.
- this embodiment may also include a flap of protection 8 as in the first embodiment.
- FIG 4 there is shown the inkwell with the blade holder 20 mounted in the configuration of use.
- the blade 21 is fixed to the blade holder 25 by a fastener 26 that extends over all the width of the inkwell, this piece 26 being attached to the blade holder 25 by screws 27 which pass through the blade 21 by holes 28 ( Figure 3) to screw into threads of the blade holder 25.
- the reference stop 25 is attached to the blade holder 20 by example by screws or other suitable means.
- the blade 11 or 21 thus forms a wear part which can to be easily exchanged and which has a reduced cost.
- the blade is made of steel of approximately 1 to 3 mm and is covered by a ceramic layer of a few microns of thickness which makes it possible to increase significantly its duration of life.
- the inks used have properties abrasives that wear the edge of the blade so that the Ceramic deposition helps to strengthen this edge.
