Definitions
- the present invention relates to the use of austenitic stainless steels in applications requiring anti-coking properties.
- these steels are used for the manufacture of equipment such as for example ovens, reactors or pipes, or elements for the realization of such equipment, or for coating the internal walls of furnaces, reactors or pipes, these devices being particularly intended for the implementation of petrochemical processes taking place at temperatures for example between 350 ° C and 1100 ° C and during which coke can form.
- the invention also relates to reactors, ovens, pipes or their elements produced or coated using these steels.
- coke The carbonaceous deposit that develops in the ovens during the conversion of hydrocarbon is generally called coke.
- This deposit of coke is harmful in the units industrial. Indeed, the formation of coke on the walls of tubes and reactors results in particular in a reduction in heat exchange, significant blockages and therefore increases in pressure losses. To maintain a reaction temperature constant, it may be necessary to increase the temperature of the walls, which may to cause damage to the alloy constituting these walls. There is also a reduction in the selectivity of the installations and consequently in the yield.
- JP-A-03-104 843 which describes an anti-coking refractory steel for ethylene cracking furnace tube. But this steel contains more than 15% chromium and nickel. It is developed to limit the formation of coke between 750 ° C and 900 ° C for cracking of ethylene.
- patent application FR-A-2 766 843 describes a stainless steel austenitic with low nickel content, the cost of which is reduced compared to the grade standard (AISI 304), but which retains mechanical properties and weldability equivalent.
- steels of this type have good anti-coking properties and could be used advantageously for manufacturing apparatus, for example ovens, reactors or pipes, or elements apparatus, for example tubes, plates, sheets, grids, profiles or ferrules, or for the coating of the internal walls of furnaces, reactors or conduits, said apparatus being intended for the implementation of petrochemical processes which take place at temperatures from 350 ° C to 1100 ° C and in which coke can form.
- the present invention relates to the use of stainless steels of composition determined to obtain good resistance to coking, but which, despite reduced nickel content retains an austenitic structure. Indeed, among the steels stainless steels with austenitic structure exhibit high behavior temperature combining good corrosion resistance and high mechanical strength, including included for welds.
- these steels can for example contain 0.0005% to 0.005%.
- the steels used in the present invention can be produced by the methods foundry and molding classics, then shaped by the usual techniques for manufacture elements such as tubes, plates, sheets, grids, profiles, ferrules, etc. In this case, these semi-finished elements or products are therefore made of all pieces. They can be used to build the main parts of equipment such as furnaces, reactors or pipes, or only accessory or auxiliary parts of these devices.
- the steels can also be used in the form of powders to coat the internal walls of ovens, reactors or pipes.
- the coating is then carried out for example by at least one technique chosen from co-centrifugation, plasma, PVD (initials for “Physical Vapor Deposition”), CVD (initials for “Chemical Vapor Deposition”), the electrolytic technique, 1 "overlay” and plating.
- the installations comprising the apparatuses produced, according to the invention, from such steels are intended for the implementation of petrochemical processes which take place at temperatures between 350 ° C and 1100 ° C and in which coke can form.
- petrochemical processes there may be mentioned, for example, catalytic cracking or thermal, catalytic reforming and dehydrogenation of saturated hydrocarbons.
- steels A, B, and C contain at most 0.03% sulfur and at most 0.045% phosphorus.
- Steel D contains at most 0.01% of sulfur and at most 0.05% of phosphorus.
- the composition of steel D leads to values of Ni eq and Cr eq very close to those of each of the austenitic steels A, B and C.
- Microbalance allows continuous measurement of mass gain on the sample per unit of time and per unit of sample area.
- the catalytic reforming reaction is carried out at 650 ° C with a molar ratio 6/1 hydrogen / hydrocarbons.
- a side reaction is the formation of coke.
- the coke deposit mainly consists of coke of catalytic origin.
