- This insert is generally made of metal (but not exclusively) and has a small width. For some users, this width is insufficient to be able to correctly apply a torque of rotational force and to drive the insert around its longitudinal axis.
- the object of the present invention is to use an insert without overmolding (to reduce the manufacturing cost and the bulk), while providing the user with a sufficient bearing surface so that he can apply a force torque allowing the insert to rotate around its longitudinal axis.

- a housing for an electronic card the said card being adapted to electronically control a locking / unlocking device on board the vehicle and allowing the locking / unlocking of the doors of the vehicle, and
- an insert compartment housing an emergency insert adapted to mechanically lock / unlock the doors of a vehicle in the event of failure of the electronic card, said electronic key being characterized in that the insert consists only of a key bit and is provided with recesses adapted to cooperate with retaining means provided in the insert compartment to firmly hold the insert in the compartment regardless of its position.
- the insert compartment is formed within or at the edge of the electronic housing so that the electronic housing constitutes a bearing surface for the fingers of a user able to allow the application of a force torque to the insert so as to easily drive it in rotation about its longitudinal axis when the insert is in the active position.

- an electronic key 10 is generally in the form of a flattened rectangular parallelepiped (bank card format for example).

- an insert compartment 11 housing an emergency insert 13 adapted to mechanically lock / unlock the doors of a vehicle in the event of failure of the electronic card
- the insert 13 In the rest position, the insert 13 is housed inside its housing 11 and does not protrude from the electronic key 10 ( Figure 1). When the electronic card works properly and it is not necessary to use the insert, it is in this rest position.
- Recesses 16 are produced in a conventional manner on the insert 13 and are adapted to cooperate with retaining means 15 provided on the compartment 11. The cooperation of these two elements makes it possible to firmly hold the insert inside the compartment 11 .
- the insert can be used directly by placing it in a lock and exerting on its gripping area 18 a torque of torsional force so as to cause it to rotate about its longitudinal axis L (figure 2).
- the grip zone 18 being of small width, it can be difficult to thus drive the insert in rotation.
- the user inserts the bit 13 into the compartment 11 by turning this bit 180 °.
- the same retaining means 15 then cooperate with the same recesses 16 to ensure the firm hold of the grip zone 18 of the insert in the compartment 11.
- the recess 16 used is the one which is the opposite of that used in the rest position since the bit (insert) has been turned 180 °.
- this makes it possible to take advantage of the production of the two recesses 16, which traditionally have been produced symmetrically on either side of the insert.
- the embodiment of the insert compartment on the side of the key makes it possible to constitute for the fingers of the user a support zone no longer limited to the sole width of the insert. but distributed over the entire surface of the key.
- the electronic housing constitutes for the user a sufficient bearing surface to allow him to easily exert on this surface a force torque (of torsional force type) adapted to rotate the insert along its longitudinal axis L .
- the insert compartment 11 is produced within the electronic housing such that the latter constitutes a pair of bearing surfaces on either side of the insert compartment making it possible to apply a force couple to drive the insert 13 in rotation about its longitudinal axis L.
- the pair of bearing surfaces plays the role of the fins in a wing nut.
- the insert compartment 11 and the housing 12 of the electronic card are produced by molding in one piece.
- the present invention is not limited to the embodiment described and encompasses any variant within the reach of ordinary skill in the art.
