Description
- Die Erfindung betrifft Härteschutzmassen für das partielle Aufkohlen von metallischen Bauteilen.
- In der Wärmebehandlung zur Oberflächenhärtung von Metallen ist es oftmals erforderlich, Bauteile partiell vor dem Behandlungsprozeß wie Aufkohlen, Nitrocarburieren oder Nitrieren zu schützen, um später an ausgewählten Oberflächenbereichen noch bestimmte mechanische Bearbeitungsschritte durchführen zu können oder um dort ursprüngliche Werkstoffeigenschaften wie etwa die Duktilität zu erhalten. Neben dem galvanischen Beschichten mit Kupfer oder Nickel gibt es bereits seit langem ein breites Angebot an lackähnlichen Schutzmassen, die vor der Härtebehandlung auf die ausgewählen Oberflächenbereiche aufgetragen werden. Beim partiellen Aufkohlen haben sich für den Schutz gegen das Eindiffundieren von Kohlenstoff Schutzmassen auf Wasserglasbasis oder auf Basis von Borglas bildenden Substanzen durchgesetzt. Während die Massen auf Basis von Wasserglas nach dem Härtevorgang nur mechanisch durch Abstrahlen der Bauteile mit Sand oder Glasperlen etc. gereinigt werden können, weisen Schutzmassen auf Basis von Borglas bildenden Substanzen den großen Vorteil der Wasserabwaschbarkeit auf. Allerdings besteht bei den bekannten Härteschutzmassen auf Basis von Borglas bildenden Substanzen die Gefahr des Ablaufens im Ofen während des Härtevorgangs, insbesondere nach nicht vollständiger Trocknung oder durch Binden von Luftfeuchtigkeit durch die Masse, da die Viskosität der Borkomponenten bei hoher Temperatur durch Wasser stark erniedrigt wird. Außerdem kann bei Kohlungstemperaturen von 900-980 °C die Borverbindung bis zum Einstellen des Dampfdruckgleichgewichtes verdampfen. Dies hat zum einen eine Abnahme der Schutzwirkung durch die dünner werdende Schutzschicht zur Folge, andererseits kann auch eine Ofenausmauerung aus SiO2-haltigen Steinen angegriffen werden. Insbesondere können solche Massen aufgrund des relativ hohen Dampfdruckes nur bedingt in der Unterdruckkohlung eingesetzt werden, da mit einer Schädigung der Unterdruckkohlungsanlage durch verdampfende Borverbindungen gerechnet werden muss.
- Die bisher alternativ in Vakuumkohlungsanlagen eingesetzten Schutzmassen auf Wasserglasbasis neigen zum Verspröden und Abplatzen bei der Hochdruckgasabschreckung. Dabei werden die Anlagen verunreinigt. So können die Wärmetauscher mit Partikeln belegt oder Lager der Gebläse beschädigt werden, was zu Anlagenstillstand führen kann
- In der
EP 0 867 524 A1 wird eine Methode zum Abdecken von Metalloberflächen beim Aufkohlen oder Nitrieren beschrieben, bei der als Abdeckmasse eine Mischung aus einer Borverbindung und Siliciumoxid, also Borglas bildende Substanzen, verwendet wird. - Die Abdeckmassen werden in Pulverform mit elektrostatischen Beschichtungsverfahren auf die Metallteile aufgebracht.
- Der vorliegenden Erfindung liegt die Aufgabenstellung zugrunde, Härteschutzmassen für das partielle Aufkohlen von metallischen Bauteilen aufzufinden und zu entwickeln, die die Nachteile der bekannten Produkte nicht aufweisen.
- Überraschend wurde nun gefunden, dass durch Zusatz von Magnesium-Silicium-Verbindungen zu ansonsten in bekannter Weise zusammengesetzten Härteschutzmassen auf Basis von Borglas bildenden Substanzen sowohl die Gefahr des Ablaufens als auch der Dampfdruck drastisch reduziert werden kann.
- Gegenstand der Erfindung sind daher Härteschutzmassen auf Basis von Borglas bildenden Substanzen für das partielle Aufkohlen von metallischen Bauteilen, die dadurch gekennzeichnet sind, dass sie Borglas bildende Substanzen und Zusatz-Magnesium-Silicium-Verbindungen im Massenverhältnis 2:1 bis 100:1 1 enthalten, und dass sie in flüssiger, halbflüssiger oder pastöser Konsistenz formuliert sind.
- Durch den erfindungsgemäßen Zusatz von Magnesium-Silicium-Verbindungen wird eine erhöhte Sicherheit bei der Gasaufkohlung gegen fehlisolierte Stellen durch ablaufende Schutzmasse erzielt.
- Weiterhin wird eine erhöhte Standzeit der Ofenausmauerung erreicht und der Einsatz von Schutzmassen auf Basis von Borglas bildenden Substanzen in der Vakuumkohlung ermöglicht.
- Als erfindungsgemäßer Zusatz zu den Härteschutzmassen auf Basis von Borglas bildenden Substanzen eignen sich grundsätzlich alle anorganischen Magnesium-Silicium-Verbindungen. Typische für diesen Einsatz geeignete Verbindungen sind Magnesiumsilikate, wie zum Beispiel Magnesiumorthosilikat (Mg2SiO4), Magnesiummetasilikat (MgSiO3), Magnesiumtrisilikat (Mg2Si3O8) und Talkum. Besonders bevorzugt ist Magnesiumtrisilikat.
- Die erfindungsgemäßen Härteschutzmassen enthalten Borglas bildende Substanzen und Magnesium-Silicium-Verbindungen typischerweise im Massenverhältnis 2:1 bis 100:1. Bevorzugt ist ein Massenverhältnis von Borglas bildenden Substanzen zu Magnesium-Silicium-Verbindungen von 5:1 bis 15:1 und insbesondere von ungefähr 10:1.
- Als Borglas bildende Substanzen enthalten die erfindungsgemäßen Härteschutzmassen Borsäure, Boroxid, Alkali- und/oder Erdalkaliborate.
- Die erfindungsgemäßen Härteschutzmassen können, bezogen auf die Gesamtmenge, 35-70 Gew.% eines organischen Bindemittelsystems enthalten und in flüssiger, halbflüssiger oder pastöser Konsistenz formuliert sind. Geeignete Bindemittelsysteme sind an sich bekannt und dem Fachmann geläufig und entsprechen jenen, wie sie bei bislang in der Praxis eingesetzten Härteschutzmassen verwendet werden.
- Typische erfindungsgemäßen Härteschutzmassen enthalten beispielsweise 40-55 Gew.% Boroxid, 3-6 Gew.% Magnesiumtrisilikat und 39-57 Gew.% eines organischen Bindemittelsystems, jeweils bezogen auf die Gesamtmenge.
- Die erfindungsgemäßen Härteschutzmassen können sehr vorteilhaft in Verfahren zum partiellen Aufkohlen von metallischen Bauteilen verwendet werden und eignen sich insbesondere vorzüglich für die Vakuumaufkohlung. Ihr Einsatz erfolgt völlig entsprechend den bekannten Härteschutzmassen. Im Gegensatz zu jenen erfolgt jedoch kein Ablaufen von den Bauteilen, so daß eine einwandfreie und sichere Behandlung gewährleistet ist. Auch bewirken sie keine Verunreinigung der Anlagen.
- Eine Schutzmasse aus 50 Gew.% Boroxid, 5 Gew.% Magnesiumtrisilikat und 45 Gew.% eines organischen Bindemittelsystems wurde bei Raumtemperatur auf ein Bauteil aufgetragen und 10 Tage bei erhöhter Luftfeuchtigkeit gelagert. Danach wurde das Bauteil bei 930°C 5 h auf eine Einsatzhärtetiefe (Eht) von 1,2 mm aufgekohlt, in Öl abgeschreckt und in einer Industriewaschmaschine gereinigt.
- Es wurde exakt der zu isolierende Bereich geschützt, es gab keinerlei Verlauf der Schutzmasse. Die Härte im abgedeckten Bereich betrug 32-36 HRC, im ungeschützten Bereich 61-63 HRC. Die Isolierung war einwandfrei. Das Bauteil ließ sich problemlos in der Industriewaschmaschine reinigen.
- Eine Schutzmasse aus 55 Gew.% Boroxid und 45 Gew.% eines organischen Bindemittelsystems wurde bei Raumtemperatur auf ein Bauteil aufgetragen und 10 Tage bei erhöhter Luftfeuchtigkeit gelagert. Danach wurde das Bauteil bei 930°C 5 h auf eine Eht von 1,2 mm aufgekohlt, in Öl abgeschreckt und in einer Industriewaschmaschine gereinigt.
- Es gab mehrere Verlaufsspuren, die auf ein Fließen der Schutzmasse während der Behandlung zurückzuführen sind. Die Härte im abgedeckten Bereich betrug meist 32-36 HRC, im Bereich der Verlaufsspuren 49-55 HRC, im ungeschützten Bereich außerhalb der Verlaufsspuren 61-63 HRC. Die Isolierung war fehlerhaft und das Bauteil war deshalb unbrauchbar.
- Eine Schutzmasse aus 50 Gew.% Boroxid, 5 Gew.% Magnesiumtrisilikat und 45 Gew.% eines organischen Bindemittelsystems wurde bei Raumtemperatur auf ein Bauteil aufgetragen und 10 Stunden bei Raumtemperatur getrocknet. Danach wurde das Bauteil in einer Unterdruckkohlungsanlage auf eine Eht von 0,6 mm aufgekohlt, in einer kalten Kammer abgeschreckt und in einer Industriewaschmaschine gereinigt.
- Es wurde exakt der zu isolierende Bereich geschützt, es gab keinerlei Verlauf der Schutzmasse. Die Schutzmasse platzte während der Abschreckung nicht ab. Die Härte im abgedeckten Bereich betrug 31-33 HRC, im ungeschützten Bereich 61-63 HRC. Die Isolierung war einwandfrei. Das Bauteil ließ sich problemlos in der Industriewaschmaschine reinigen.
- Eine Schutzmasse aus 55 Gew.% Boroxid und 45 Gew.% eines organischen Bindemittelsystems wurde bei Raumtemperatur auf ein Bauteil aufgetragen und 10 Stunden bei Raumtemperatur getrocknet. Danach wurde das Bauteil in einer Unterdruckkohlungsanlage auf eine Eht von 0,6 mm aufgekohlt, in einer kalten Kammer abgeschreckt und in einer Industriewaschmaschine gereinigt.
- Es gab mehrere Verlaufsspuren, die auf ein Fließen der Schutzmasse während der Behandlung zurückzuführen sind. Die Härte im abgedeckten Bereich betrug meist 31-34 HRC, im Bereich der Verlaufsspuren 47-54 HRC, im ungeschützten Bereich außerhalb der Verlaufsspuren 61-63 HRC. Die Isolierung war fehlerhaft und das Bauteil war deshalb unbrauchbar.
- Eine Schutzmasse auf Wasserglasbasis wurde bei Raumtemperatur auf ein Bauteil aufgetragen und 10 Stunden bei Raumtemperatur getrocknet. Danach wurde das Bauteil in einer Unterdruckkohlungsanlage auf eine Eht von 0,6 mm aufgekohlt, in einer kalten Kammer abgeschreckt und in einer Industriewaschmaschine gereinigt.
- Es gab keine Verlaufsspuren, die Härte im abgedeckten Bereich betrug 29-32 HRC, im ungeschützten Bereich 61-63 HRC. Es war ein teilweises Abplatzen der Schutzmasse von etwa 20% der aufgetragenen Masse während des Abschreckens festzustellen. Die abgeplatzten Rückstände der Schutzmasse waren hart und nur mit sehr großem Aufwand aus der Abschreckkammer, insbesondere aus den Wärmetauschern zu entfernen. Durch den Verbleib dieser Partikel in der Anlage ist mit eine Verkürzung der Anlagenlaufzeit und Verschlechterung der Funktion zu rechnen. Die Rückstände der Schutzmasse ließen sich nicht in der Industriewaschmaschine abwaschen. Das Bauteil konnte nur durch Strahlen mit Sand oder Glasperlen gereinigt werden.
Claims (8)
- Härteschutzmassen auf Basis von Borglas bildenden Substanzen, enthaltend Borsäure, Boroxid, Alkali- und/oder Erdalkaliborate, für das partielle Aufkohlen von metallischen Bauteilen, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass sie Borglas bildende Substanzen und als Zusatz Magnesium-Silicium-Verbindungen im Massenverhältnis 2:1 bis 100:1 enthalten, und dass sie in flüssiger, halbflüssiger oder pastöser Konsistenz formuliert sind.
- Härteschutzmassen nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass sie Borglas bildende Substanzen und Magnesium-Silicium-Verbindungen im Massenverhältnis 5:1 bis 15:1, vorzugsweise im Massenverhältnis von ungefähr 10:1 enthalten.
- Härteschutzmassen nach den Ansprüchen 1 oder 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass sie als Magnesium-Silicium-Verbindungen Magnesiumsilikate, wie insbesondere Magnesiumorthosilikat (Mg2SiO4), Magnesiummetasilikat (MgSiO3), Magnesiumtrisilikat (Mg2Si3O8) und Talkum, enthalten.
- Härteschutzmassen nach den Ansprüchen 1 bis 3, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass sie als Magnesium-Silicium-Verbindung Magnesiumtrisilikat enthalten.
- Härteschutzmassen nach den Ansprüchen 1 bis 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass sie, bezogen auf die Gesamtmenge, 35-70 Gew. % eines organischen Bindemittelsystems enthalten.
- Härteschutzmassen nach Anspruch 5, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass sie, bezogen auf die Gesamtmenge, 40-55 Gew. % Boroxid, 3-6 Gew. % Magnesiumtrisilikat und 39-57 Gew. % eines organischen Bindemittelsystems enthalten.
- Härteschutzmasse nach Anspruch 5 oder 6, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass sie, bezogen auf die Gesamtmenge, 45 Gew. % Boroxid, 5 Gew. % Magnesiumtrisilikat und 50 Gew. % eines organischen Bindemittelsystems enthält.
- Verwendung der Härteschutzmassen gemäß den Ansprüchen 1 bis 7 in Verfahren zum partiellen Aufkohlen von metallischen Bauteilen.
