Definitions
- the present application relates to a process for the washing of raw wool, as well as the use of certain fatty alcohol ethoxylates for wool washing.
- JP 61-060794 (cited from Database WPI, AN 1986-121924) describes detergent compositions for cleaning and degreasing wool containing polyoxyethylene 2-heptylundecyl ether.
- the composition can be blended with nonionic surfactants, inter alia ethoxylated fatty alcohols.
- JP 11-035975 (cited from Database WPI, AN 1999-186615) describes liquid detergents containing two different types of specific nonionic surfactants and an additional surfactant other than these nonionic surfactants.
- the liquid detergent can be used for washing wool, acrylic and polyester fibers.
- WO 98/53131 describes a process for washing yarns.
- EP-A-0831165 describes means for treating fibers. These agents contain iminodisuccinic acids of special structure.
- WO 99/03958 describes the use of electrolyte mixtures comprising phosphonates and at least one further electrolyte salt from the group of polyacrylates, silicates, carbonates and citrates, as sequestering agents for the preparation of aqueous bleaching agents.
- the object of the present application was therefore to provide an ecologically sound alternative to the toxicologically questionable surfactants hitherto used in wool washing, in particular in industrial raw wool washing. based on nonylphenol, which is an acceptable alternative for the industry both in detergency and in price.
- it has been to provide raw wool detergent compositions which are capable of improving the residual fat content of the wool after the washing process over conventional means.
- branched fatty alcohol ethoxylates having 8 to 22 carbon atoms in admixture with aminodicarboxylic acids or their salts and / or their oligomers and polymers and / or together with aspartic acid and / or glutamic acid or salts thereof and / or their Oligomers and polymers and / or alkylphosphonic acids and / or derivatives thereof as detergent for raw wool.
- Wool according to DIN 60001 T1 (October 1990), means both the hair of the various domestic sheep breeds, which is about 5 to 30 cm long, and the hair of South American lamas, camels, rabbits and goats. Most of the industrially processed wool is obtained from sheep.
- the wool is a protein fiber consisting mainly of keratin, which is a scleroprotein.
- the raw wool extracted from the sheep by Schur is polluted by sand, dust, etc., and contains large quantities of wool sweat, a mixture of potassium salts of fatty acids, hydroxy-, amino- and organic acids, produced by the drying of animal fumes.
- the raw wool adheres to the wool fat, which is formed in the sebaceous gland of the sheep and mainly consists of lanolin, a mixture of different fatty acid esters.
- the wool of Australian Merino sheep eg contains about 49 wt .-% wool fibers, about 19 wt .-% dirt, about 16 wt .-% fat, about 10 wt .-% water and about 6 wt .-% sweat.
- Ullmann's Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry, Volume 28A, Fith Edition, 1996, pages 395-421 For further details, reference is made to Ullmann's Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry, Volume 28A, Fith Edition, 1996, pages 395-421.
- fatty alcohol ethoxylates are used in wool washing. These are ethoxylated fatty alcohols, these fatty alcohols obeying the general formula (I), R 1 -OH (I) in which R 1 is a branched alkyl radical having 8 to 22 C atoms and 0 to 3 double bonds.
- R 1 is a branched alkyl radical having 8 to 22 C atoms and 0 to 3 double bonds.
- Particularly preferred is the use of fatty alcohol ethoxylates based on branched fatty alcohols having 8 to 15 carbon atoms.
- Such fatty alcohols can be synthesized by known methods, in particular, the branched products of oxo synthesis are suitable.
- Guerbet reaction Another source of branched fatty alcohols for the purposes of the present application is the so-called Guerbet reaction.
- linear primary fatty alcohols at 200 ° C and elevated pressure in the presence of copper or sodium via the intermediate stage of the aldehydes and subsequent Aldol reaction to branched fatty alcohols condensed. Due to the reaction, Guerbet synthesis gives 2-alkyl-alkanols.
- the Guerbet alcohols thus follow the general formula (II)
- R and R 'independently of one another is an alkyl radical having 1 to 12 C atoms.
- Particularly suitable branched fatty alcohols for the purposes of the present application are 2-ethylhexanol, isooctanol, isononanol, isodecanol, isoundecanol, isododecanol and branched alcohols having 13 and 15 C atoms. Depending on the synthesis route, these are technical mixtures of different isomers.
- the multi-branched ones are also suitable, for example 2,6-dimethyl-4-heptanol, 3,5,5-trimethyl-1-hexanol or 3,5-trimethylheptanol.
- any mixtures of ethoxylates of the abovementioned branched fatty alcohols can be used.
- the branched fatty alcohols are ethoxylated by known methods under pressure and elevated temperatures in the presence of acidic or basic catalysts, preferably those alkoxylated compounds are used which are reacted per mole of fatty alcohols with 4 to 12 moles and preferably 5 to 10 moles of ethylene oxide.
- the fatty alcohol ethoxylates are dissolved as surfactant component in the wash liquor, used for the washing of raw wool.
- the ethoxylates are added in amounts of 0.1 to 10 g / l, preferably 0.5 to 5 g / l and in particular from 0.5 to 2.5 g / l (active substance) is used.
- the mixtures to be used according to the invention comprise, in addition to the fatty alcohol ethoxylates, aminodicarboxylic acids or their salts and / or their oligomers and polymers and / or together with aspartic acid and / or glutamic acid or its salts and / or their oligomers and polymers and / or alkylphosphonic acids and / or their derivatives ,
- aminodicarboxylic acids such as aspartic and glutamic acid, their salts and the oligomers and polymers of these compounds are used.
- polyaspartic acid or its sodium or potassium salts are used.

Description
R1-OH (I)
