Definitions
- the invention relates to a litho tape for electro-chemical Roughening, consisting of a rolled aluminum alloy and a process for its manufacture.
- Rectangular cast ingots are the primary material after milling the cast skin by hot and cold forming thin strips are rolled out.
- the finish rolling happens usually with finely ground steel rollers, so that is standard a so-called mill finish surface is achieved.
- the Semi-finished products are known as offset or litho strips and are usually used rolled up into coils.
- the standard materials are pure aluminum (AA1050) and alloys of the type AlMn1 (AA3003, AA3103) for use.
- the rolled strip is processed into printing plate supports by roughening the strip surface.
- Mechanical, chemical and electrochemical roughening and combinations of these methods are known.
- the electrochemical (EC) roughening is carried out as standard in baths based on HCl or HNO 3 ; the topography created is characterized by fine round hollows ⁇ 20 ⁇ m in diameter; the printing plate is roughened all over and shows a structureless appearance (without streaking effects).
- the roughening structure is protected by anodization, ie with a thin, hard oxide layer.
- the printing plate carrier becomes an offset printing plate. The printing plates are exposed and developed.
- the photo layer is baked at temperatures in the range of 220-300 ° C and annealing times of 3-10 min; the thermal treatment makes the pixels resistant to abrasion, so that the printing plate is suitable for long runs.
- the Al printing plate carrier should lose as little strength as possible, since soft plates can no longer be handled without kinks.
- the finished printing plate is inserted into the printing press. What is important is an exact clamping of the plate on the printing cylinder, so that there is no freedom of movement in the printing process. If the pressure plate is not ideally fixed and therefore is cyclically subjected to bending or torsion during printing, experience has shown that they occur with the fast-running web offset printing presses Plate cracking. The cause is a fatigue break, which leads to the immediate interruption of the printing process leads. Al materials for offset printing plates must therefore a sufficiently high fatigue strength or alternating bending strength have so that "plate cracking" avoided becomes.
- Printing plate manufacturers also know that a large one Difference in sensitivity to plate cracking exists depending on the direction in which the pressure plate rolled Al strip is removed: parallel when removing the plate to the rolling direction with clamping such that the previous one Direction of rolling in the direction of the press, tear Experience has shown that plates are much rarer than when they were removed perpendicular to the rolling direction (transverse direction "). To avoid Plate breakers are therefore printing plates for web offset printing machines the rolled Al strip, preferably parallel to the rolling direction (in the longitudinal direction "). This measure provides a severe limitation in terms of economy when cutting the coil into different printing plate formats represents.
- the object of the present invention is to develop a litho tape which has a high thermal stability, can be roughened in EC processes based on HCl and HNO 3 just as well as pure aluminum, after the EC roughening a uniform, structureless (streak-free) appearance shows and which has a high fatigue strength perpendicular to the rolling direction. Furthermore, a method is to be specified with which the properties described above can be produced in the case of litho tapes.
- the new litho ribbon is characterized by a tightly limited edition Alloy range and through a controlled semi-finished product production with which a fine-grained, recrystallized hot strip is produced becomes. Further processing must also be controlled Conditions take place so that the one set in the rolling process Structural state is maintained.
- litho bands for electrochemical roughening consist of a rolled aluminum alloy which contains the following elements: 0.20% Mg, 0.20% Si, 0.30% Fe (cf. Examples 8 and 19).
- a tensile strength of 17.1 and 17.5 kg / mm 2 was determined for these litho tapes (corresponding to 168 and 172 N / mm 2 ).
- a streak-free litho tape with high flexural fatigue strength Reaching across the rolling direction is next to the narrowly limited Analysis requires a controlled semi-finished product production.
- a hot strip according to the invention After performing the features specified in claim 5 a) and b) is a hot strip according to the invention with the following Characteristic values generated (see Table 1).
- Fig. 1a shows a schematic representation of the grain structure of the hot strip according to the invention in longitudinal section. You can see the dark colored globulitically recrystallized grains, which extend over more than 75% of the total hot strip thickness. The gray, elongated areas represent non-recrystallized grains.
- Fig. 1b schematically shows the longitudinal section through a standard hot strip made from the alloy AA 1050; there is an inhomogeneous mixed structure which is partly roughly recrystallized, partly not recrystallized. In principle, the structure remains intact during further rolling; the homogeneous structure of the hot strip according to the invention prevents streaking effects on strip thickness.
- the measurement of the RR value in hot strip enables in early control of the control - for the fatigue strength important - dissolved elements Fe and Mg; an RR value in the range of 10 - 20 guarantees the proportion of the elements in solid solution, that in the finished rolled strip for a high Flexural fatigue strength in the transverse direction is required.
- the Residual resistance ratio RR is a measure of that in the Al mixed crystal Alloy content in solid solution; the Measuring method for determining the RR value is in the publication Corrosion Science, Vol. 38, No. 3, pp. 413-429, 1996 described.
- the hot strip is cold rolled according to claim 5 feature c).
- On final annealing of the cold-rolled strip must be avoided, because the fatigue strength is due to a softening annealing although it can be increased in the longitudinal direction (cf. US Patent 4 435 230 / Furukawa Aluminum Co. and U.S. Patent 3,911,819 / Swiss Aluminum Ltd.), but in the critical transverse direction decreases.
- the thermal stability is determined by measuring the strength tested in a tensile test after the litho tape had been at 240 ° C. for 10 min has been annealed. It is a standard glow test, which is common with printing plate manufacturers and in practice covers common stoving treatments.
- the material after 240 ° C / 10min the material should have a higher thermal stability than AA 1050, namely Rm> 145 N / mm 2 .
- Samples of 0.5 m 2 are roughened at a constant temperature and constant flow conditions in an electrolyte of 7 g / l hydrochloric acid with an alternating current of 50 Hz.
- the EC roughening takes place with different roughening charges in the range of 500-1500 C / dm 2 .
- a roughening of the samples is usually achieved in this area: the plateau-like mill finish surface has disappeared and a full-surface trough structure has been created.
- the samples are then classified according to the progress of roughening. For this purpose, a standard sample made of material AA 1050 is always checked and the test material is evaluated in comparison to the standard.
- the material should be roughened at least as well be like AA 1050, i.e. after the test described at least received a rating of +.
- the EC roughening takes place with different roughening charges in the range of 500-1000 C / dm 2 .
- a roughening of the samples is usually achieved, ie the bare surface with mill finish structure has disappeared and has been replaced by a surface-covering trough structure.
- a standard sample Material AA 1050 is always checked along with the test material evaluated in each case in comparison to the standard.
- the material should be roughened at least as well be like AA 1050, i.e. after the test described at least received a rating of +.
- a macro etch can be used to check whether a litho tape shows the desired structure-free appearance after roughening.
- the samples are treated in a freshly prepared macro-etching solution (500 ml H 2 0, 375 ml HCl, 175 ml HNO 3 , 50 ml HF, etching 30 seconds at 25 ° C); the degree of streaking is then determined by optical inspection.
- the new material should have a significantly higher bending number than AA 1050 and at least the bending number of AA 3103, namely a bending number> 1250 for 0.3 mm strip thickness.
- the subsequent cold rolling can be done in different ways take place, as is shown by way of example.
- Example 1 the strip is produced with an intermediate annealing; the heating rate is 35 ° C / h, the annealing temperature 400 ° C and the annealing time 2 hours MT.
- the strip is produced with intermediate annealing, the heating rate being 25 ° C./s, the annealing temperature 450 ° C. and the annealing time being 1 minute.
- the strip is manufactured without intermediate annealing.
- the final thicknesses are 0.3 mm each.
- the band receives no more Annealing, but goes into the process of being cold rolled Plate making.
- Table 2 shows that the strips with the alloy composition according to the invention meet the requirements in terms of thermal stability (Rm> 145 N / mm 2 ) and bending cycles in the transverse direction (> 1250) according to the production processes specified; they also have very good roughening behavior in the HCl and HNO 3 system, which exceeds the standard material AA 1050 in terms of roughening speed.
- the strips are completely without structure and achieve top marks in the streak test. But even in the case of production without intermediate annealing (example 3), the roughened surface is still sufficiently structureless and streak-free.
- Table 3 shows the properties of those previously used for offset printing plates used standard materials AA1050 and AA3103. They differ from the tapes according to the invention essentially through analysis; the manufacture of semi-finished products was carried out in the same way as for inventive examples 1, 2, Third
- Examples 6 + 7 The standard material AA1050 (pure aluminum) does not meet the requirements with regard to thermal stability and flexural fatigue strength in the transverse direction - with and without intermediate annealing.
- AA 1050 with intermediate annealing the strip is rated well in the streak test; in the case of production without intermediate annealing (example 7), the roughened surface shows a streaked appearance.
- EC roughening in the HCl and HNO 3 process higher charges are required for AA 1050 for area-wide roughening than for the examples according to the invention.
- Example 8 The material AA 3103 used for offset printing plates is an alloy which, due to an Mn content of approx. 1%, meets the requirements for strength and flexural fatigue strength.
- the disadvantage of the material is that it cannot be used universally for EC roughening: roughening in the ENT 3 process is not possible and is therefore unusual; When the EC is roughened in the HCl process, a very high charge is required to achieve a homogeneous, all-round pickling tray structure. The streak test requirement is not met.
- Table 4 shows the properties of litho ribbons for offset printing plates summarized, the materials containing Mg were produced, but otherwise in the analysis and / or the tape production differ from the inventive examples.
- Example 4 was produced with the analysis and production according to the invention, but with a final annealing of 200 ° C./1 h.
- the thermal stability is similar and the roughening behavior in both acid systems is just as good as for example 3 according to the invention.
- the fatigue strength in the transverse direction does not correspond to the required level.
- Example 9 differs from the analysis according to the invention in that it has a low Fe content of ⁇ 0.3%; the production is identical to example 3. It can be seen that the requirements - with the exception of thermal stability - are met. It can be concluded from this that a higher Fe content is required to achieve a sufficiently high thermal stability.
- Example 5 differs from Example 3 according to the invention in that it has a low Fe content of ⁇ 0.3% and in the production which was carried out without intermediate annealing and with final annealing of the cold-rolled strip at 200 ° C./1 h.
- This variant corresponds to a material that is described in US Patent 4,435,230 (Furukawa Aluminum Co.). According to the patent, it is characterized by good fatigue behavior (in the longitudinal direction) and good roughening behavior in the HCl process. It should be noted that the requirement for the fatigue strength in the critical transverse direction is missed and the desired thermal stability is not achieved. The roughening behavior - as described in the patent - is good.
- Example 10 is a material described in US Patent 3,911,819 (Swiss Aluminum Ltd.). The alloy is primarily characterized by the addition of Cu. The material is attested to a good fatigue behavior, which is understandable on the basis of the analysis. The patent does not provide any information about the roughening behavior. - It was found that Cu additions> 0.04% in both AA 1050 and AA 3103 alloys have a negative effect on the electrochemical roughening. The Cu-containing material in Example 10 can only be used for purely mechanical roughening; it is unsuitable for electrochemical roughening in HCl or HNO 3 processes, since it does not achieve the required litho-tape qualities.

Description
- eine hohe thermische Stabilität, damit das Al-Substrat beim Einbrennen der Fotoschicht nicht weich wird (nicht rekristallisiert);
- ein gutes Aufrauhverhalten in EC-Prozessen auf HCl und HNO3-Basis, damit der Al-Werkstoff universell einsetzbar ist;

- ein feines globulitisches Korn von 20-40µm Durchmesser gemessen an der Warmband-Oberfäche;
- bei Messung des elektrischen Widerstands werden Restwiderstands-Verhältnisse von RR = 13 - 16 ermittelt (der RR-Wert ist ein Maß für den im Al-Mischkristall in fester Lösung befindlichen Legierungsanteil;
