Definitions
- This invention relates to gas discharge lamps. It affects them Specialty of gas discharge lamps for dielectric barrier discharges, d. H. So gas discharge lamps in which the electrodes, at least however, the anodes, with a dielectric layer from the gas filling are separated for discharge.
- Such gas discharge lamps for dielectrically impeded discharges are has become the subject of increased attention in the recent past, because they can show different technical characteristics that they especially as a flat spotlight for backlighting liquid crystal screens make it seem appropriate.
- the present invention relates not primarily on this area of application and is also not on Flat radiator restricted.
- gas discharge lamps have dielectric disabled discharges over electrode assemblies with a variety of electrodes for generating a large number of spatially distributed partial discharges.
- flat spotlights for example, one is possible uniform backlighting of an extensive area.
- EP-A-0766286 shows tubular discharge lamps with separated operable pairs of electrodes, each separate surface areas assigned.
- US-A-5479071 shows display devices with antenna groups for activating discharges in different Discharge spaces that correspond to the letters to be displayed.
- This invention is based on the technical problem of gas discharge lamps for dielectrically disabled discharges with a view to extended To further develop applications and uses.
- a gas discharge lamp with a discharge vessel filled with a gas filling with a Large number of electrodes that can be operated in independently operated groups switchable operation are divided, and with a dielectric layer between at least one anode part of the electrodes and the gas filling, characterized in that the electrodes of different separately operable Electrode groups are interleaved around in the same luminous area, independent discharge structures to be able to generate, so that the same luminous area optionally using one or more of the electrode groups can be illuminated.
- the invention is based on a plurality of electrodes in a gas discharge lamp for dielectrically disabled discharges the electrodes in to divide groups that can be operated separately, that is to say part of the anodes and / or part of the cathodes can be electrically controlled separately make and likewise the other or a further part of the cathodes and / or anodes in the same way, but independently of the first part, make electrically controllable.
- each of the electrode groups is largely one uniform backlighting of the illuminated surface can cause.
- a function similar to a dimming function can be realized by operating individual electrode groups different performance or certain combinations of Electrode groups have the same luminous area with different luminances appears.
- a (discrete) brightness gradation is without the circuitry complexity of a dimming function possible.
- the division into groups can result from the electrical separation of cathodes or anodes or from an interaction of an electrical Separation of the cathodes and one of the anodes result.
- anode and cathode are otherwise not to be understood as restricting unipolar operation.
- bipolar operation of the electrodes between anodes and cathodes, so that respective statements for anodes or In the bipolar case, cathodes apply to both "types of electrodes".
- the invention preferably relates to so-called flat radiators.
- a discharge volume is formed from not necessarily flat in the Meaning of straight, but flat and largely flat plates, for example made of glass, with the electrode structures on one or both glass plates are made. Due to the electrode distribution on a large area and possibly by using additional diffuser layers, large areas can be created realize flat lamps with very even light distribution.
- a Flat light generation is an essential in many applications Point of view. It can be about an area of certain extent to backlight or a certain light output on a surface distribute to reduce glare. A flat design can also be used for aesthetic reasons or to reduce the Shadow formation is important.
- the invention can do essentials in such flat radiator applications Be an advantage, especially if according to a preferred Embodiment also the groups to be operated independently correspond to different illuminated areas. Then consequently they are To operate illuminated areas independently of one another, the illuminated areas nevertheless to the same gas discharge lamp, in particular to belong to the same discharge vessel. Examples are billboards where different graphic elements are operated independently of each other, z. B. partly flashing and partly continuously lit.
- signal lamps their different graphic Elements correspond to the electrically separated groups.
- The can Increase in conspicuity play a role, as also with those already mentioned Advertising space. But it can also be about symbolizing certain Content of meaning goes through, for example, successive activation different illuminated areas, the continuous arrow movement symbolize or the like.
- Another possibility is the use different, alternatively selectable illuminated areas with different Content of meaning for adapting the meaning of one and the same signal lamp to different situations.
- Preferred forms for such a coordinated electrode geometry are circular, circle segment, surfaces in the form of a ring or a segment of a ring. They occur in many analog displays on. Reference is also made to the second example.
- Another possible application for spatially separated electrode groups is through special optical foils or similar devices the separate illuminated areas of the electrode groups have different radiation directions or at least to give directions, so that overall by switching operation between the electrode groups the radiation properties of the lamp also in the direction can be changed.
- the invention also relates to an interior lamp in which the Advantages of the invention on the one hand for aesthetic reasons or on the other hand can be used to regulate the luminance.
- FIG Discharge volume that of two lying flat in the drawing plane Glass plates and a seal running along the drawn edge is included.
- the glass plates protrude in the lower part of the figure with an approach labeled 3 beyond the discharge volume 1.
- On the right is the one used for evacuation and filling Pump nozzle (in the closed state) shown.
- 2 are the electrodes printed on one of the plates, where Cathodes and anodes run alternately, but in the figure are not differentiated because they have no qualitative differences and in bipolar operation the roles are no longer separate.
- the electrodes 2 lie in the discharge volume for most of their length 1 and are located on the outside of the discharge volume 1 Part in the area of approach 3 to the supply circuit and automotive electrics connected.
- the electrodes 2 are in three spatially separate groups 2a, 2b and 2c before, each corresponding to certain display units or content.
- the left group 2a corresponds to an analog instrument for speed display and leads from their leading to Approach 3 straight section apart, the circular ring segment of this analog instrument to.
- group 2c two instruments are combined, namely a tank level indicator and a cooling water thermometer.
- the invention is in contrast for the conventional use of curved fluorescent lamps or several light bulbs through a technically simple and rationally producible Structure and one exactly to the design of the display device adapted distribution of the surface luminance. With that improves energy efficiency and ergonomics. Beyond that Flat radiators with dielectric impedance discharge also particularly advantageous, because they have high switching stability and vibration resistance have and in their lifespan basically only by the stability of the used phosphors ("maintenance") are limited. These advantages are particularly important for motorized means of transport where the Effort to repair or replace is high and a failure of one Display device or its lighting especially for safety reasons is unfavorable.
- the geometry of the flat radiators can also be advantageous, which, as is clear in this example, is particularly good in shape and size the place of use or installation can be adapted.
- there the use of simple flat radiator housing shapes is nevertheless permitted, in the present example, the outer shape of the discharge volume 1 inclusive of approach 3 instead of the complicated circular ring segments Fittings.
- the flatness is also given the limited space in a dashboard, cockpit, etc. is an advantage. The same applies to that light weight.
- Figure 2 shows an interior lamp consisting of a Lamp with three light surfaces 14a, 14b, 14c, the inner surface of a frame Fill in 11.
- Figure 3 shows the associated electrode structure.
- the totality the electrode consists of a comb-like anode structure 15 and three comb-like cathode groups 12a, 12b, 12c.
- the cathode groups and the anodes of the comb-like structure 15 are together nested so that pairs between adjacent cathodes of anode strips. In addition, lie at the two extreme ends individual anode strips.
- the electrode geometry chosen here is for a unipolar voltage Power pulse coupling aligned.
- the cathode strips wear nose-like directed towards the sides of the respective adjacent anode strips Projections for the local determination of individual partial discharges, as in DE 196 36 965.7 are described in more detail.
- an inventive The electrodes cannot be divided into groups that can be operated separately a group-separated electrical connection of both "electrode types" must be given. Rather, in the present case, the entire Number of anodes 15 are connected together and at a constant Reference potential can be laid.
- the active power coupling pulses already mentioned cf. the cited prior art
- the common connections of the cathode strips of a group and the Anode strips lie at the end of a bus-like structure outside the discharge vessel delimited by the frame 11.
- the electrode strips are simply between the frame 11 and one, not shown Bottom or top plate of the discharge vessel carried out, in the same way screen printed as electrode strips run inside the discharge vessel.
- the second and third examples concern, as already mentioned, an interior light, which are divided into different illuminated areas for decorative reasons which can be switched independently of one another.
- the gas discharge lamp shown in the second and third examples as advertising space representing a business logo to understand, the individual segments alternating, for example, in a blinking state can be set to the level of abnormality to increase advertising.
