Definitions
- the invention relates to a method for stabilizing an artificial patina layer produced on a copper sheet according to the features in the preamble of claim 1.
- a ripening process is understood to mean a reaction process in which the artificial patina layer is exposed to the environmental atmosphere over a period of approximately one week to several weeks. During this period, the crystal structures of the artificial patina layer react in connection with the air humidity in such a way that the desired patina is achieved both in terms of color and structure.
- the invention has for its object to provide a method for stabilizing an artificial patina layer produced on a copper sheet which is not hindered by the ripening process of the patina layer and which is also easy to process during the ripening process, e.g. Forming a copper sheet allowed.
- a transparent cover layer consisting of water glass and hydroxyl cellulose is applied to it.
- a covering layer has the character and function of a net with the effect that on one side this covering layer is sufficiently porous to allow the patina to mature as required, and on the other side the patina in the event of deformation, for example in a bending process, is held firmly on the surface of the copper sheet so that it can neither be detached from the copper sheet in parts nor removed over a large area. This avoids flaking and dust formation. Skin irritation and tool corrosion are prevented. There is no environmental impact from the removed patina.
- the mesh-like transparent cover layer has the advantage that it retains its shape even after a long period of time and does not tear. If, after installation of a patinated copper sheet, the covering layer finally dissolves due to weather influences, this no longer affects the quality of the patina layer and the processing of an artificially patinated copper sheet.
- An advantageous embodiment of the method according to the invention consists in the features of claim 2. Thereafter, an artificially patinated copper sheet is immersed in a solution of sodium or potassium water glass and hydroxyl cellulose and then dried.
- the drying of the applied transparent covering layer is carried out in an atmosphere having a temperature of approximately 20 ° C to 150 ° C.
- the mechanical resistance was tested by a friction test with steel wool. No visible abrasion was found.
- the optical cover layer consisting of water glass and hydroxyl cellulose creates the optical Appearance of the artificially patinated surface of the copper sheet is not relevantly changed. Furthermore, the abrasion resistance, processability, etc. are significantly improved. Flaking and dust formation as well as the associated problems such as skin irritation and tool corrosion are avoided. Nevertheless, the cover layer is sufficiently porous to enable the artificially produced patina layer to ripen in a free atmosphere within the required period of time.

Abstract
