Abstract

The railway switching points comprise a sleeper (10) having a long body (11) with a rectangular or trapezoidal cross section. Its lower face (12) is supported on the ballast and the upper face (13) supports a stock rail (CA) and rail point (RA). The upper face has a central longitudinal groove (14) along its length. An edge (15) receives the fixings (F) for holding the stock rail. The edge is situated on either side the groove and on the upper face. The width (1) of the groove is between a quarter and half the width (L) of the sleeper. The groove depth (P) is between about a quarter and a half of the sleeper height (H). The groove is locally closed by a cover (16) resting on the edges.
