Definitions
- the invention relates to a circuit arrangement with a pair of switching contacts made of silver and / or a silver alloy and with an inductive load which can be connected to a DC voltage source via the pair of switching contacts.
- Inductive loads in DC circuits occur, for example, in automobiles, where more and more DC motors are being used due to the increase in comfort and safety.
- a long service life of switching cycles but also a high switching reliability, i. That is, a low failure rate in the area of use of the switching device, namely the relay or switch, is required.
- Both criteria, service life and failure rate are strongly influenced by the material migration of the contacts in switching operation under load with direct current. What is important here is the formation of points and holes on the contacts, which, statistically speaking, are very likely to cause the contacts to get caught early.
- the object of the invention is, in a circuit arrangement with switching contacts made of silver or a silver alloy and an inductive load, to avoid the material migration in terms of circuitry in the simplest possible way, without the contact material having to be specially selected and without the need for complex additional circuit elements in the load circuit.
- this object is achieved in that in a circuit arrangement according to the preamble of claim 1, the burning time of the shutdown arc is determined by the time constant T from the ratio of the inductance L and the ohmic resistance R in the load circuit as a function of the shutdown current i according to the following relationship: T
- L R ⁇ 10
- a dimensioning rule for the load circuit namely for the ratio of the inductance to the ohmic resistance and thus for the arc burn time with which the material migration is completely suppressed or given, is given for the range of the shutdown current of 1 to 30 A that is of most interest in practice can at least be greatly reduced.
- the invention makes use of the following knowledge:
- the material migration is the result of asymmetrical evaporation processes on the two contacts, namely the anode and the cathode. These essentially arise due to the switch-off arc, especially with inductive loads.
- the decisive factor here is the burning time of this switch-off arc.
- the burning time of the switch-off arc is essentially given by the time constant, i.e. by the switch-off inductance L of the inductive component, for example a motor, and its ohmic resistance R
- the motors in the load circuit can be selected according to the invention such that the switch-off arc defines the switch according to the invention Burning time occupies.
- FIG. 1 shows a simplified circuit diagram of a load circuit with a direct current source B, a switch contact S and an inductive load, which is represented by the series connection of an inductor L and an ohmic resistor R.
- This load is preferably a DC motor, such as is used in automobiles to drive various functional units.
- FIG. 2 shows, on a logarithmic scale, the time constant T plotted as a ratio of inductance L and ohmic resistance R, which determines the arc duration, plotted against the switch-off current i.
- the areas provided according to the invention for determining the time constant T are each hatched, namely the area TB1 for cutoff currents from 1 A to about 20 A and the area TB2 for cutoff currents between 20 A and 30 A.
- the areas each have a specific bandwidth, it is generally to be assumed that the time constant should be more at the lower limit of the respective range at lower cutoff currents and the time constant should be at the upper limit of the range at higher cutoff currents.
- the exact values for an optimal switching off of the material migration can be determined in individual cases for the contact materials used by simple tests.
- the maximum upper limit of the burning times of the switching arcs in the TB2 area should not exceed 10 ms, since in switching devices of the usual design, i.e. relays and switches, statistically speaking, above this burning time of the switching arcs, they no longer reliably extinguish when the contact is open. In this case there is a risk that the contact system may be thermally destroyed in a short time with a single switching cycle.
- the drive coil of the switching device to protect the control electronics applies to the time constant, of course, the current value of the circuit, which of course depends in this case on the load parameters (L, R) and the various wiring parameters.
- This can be recorded by measurement technology and can be optimized into the specified favorable ranges according to the invention. It is therefore not necessary to extinguish the switching arc, which might be more difficult and more complex, rather an optimization with regard to its burning time is sufficient.
