Definitions
- the invention relates to a fuel pump for internal combustion engines according to the preamble of patent claim 1.
- Such a fuel pump is the subject of US-A-4,784,587, for example, and there has a pump unit designed as a side channel pump, the pump wheel of which has a blade ring in each of the two axial walls, which cooperates with a side channel.
- the outlet area of the first side channel or pump unit in the flow direction merges into the suction area of the second via a connecting channel, and the outlet area and suction area of these pump stages are arranged in such a way that the moments acting on the axial walls during operation cancel each other out.
- the invention is therefore based on the object of finding measures with which a generic fuel pump can be operated with high efficiency and low noise even with fluctuating outlet pressure can be, in addition, a simple production is to be achieved.
- Fig. 1 shows a fuel pump 1, consisting of a housing 2, an electric motor 3 and a pump unit 4.
- the pump unit 4 consists of a side channel pump, the pump wheel 5 in each of the two axial walls 6, 7 has a blade ring 8, 9 which cooperates with a side channel 10, 11, the outlet area 12 of the first side channel 10 or pumping unit passing in the direction of flow merging into the suction area 14 of the second via a connecting channel 13 and the outlet area and suction area 12 and 14 of these pump stages being arranged in such a way that they are in operation cancel the moments acting on the axial walls 6, 7, ie that seen in the axial direction of the pump wheel 5, an intake area 15 of the first pump stage is opposite the intake area 14 of the second pump stage and the outlet area 12 of the first pump stage is opposite an outlet area 16 of the second pump stage.
- the pump wheel 5 has on the axial wall 6 with the blade ring 8 of the first pump stage a surface area 17 which is delimited by a recess 18 in a pump wall 19 and via a recess 20 of the pump wheel 5 into which a driver 22 arranged on the motor armature 21 projects. and a recess 23, through which the driver 22 and an armature shaft 24 protrude, is connected to a housing chamber 25, in which the electric motor, which is flushed by the fuel for cooling, is arranged.
- the fuel in this chamber 25 is under the outlet pressure of the second pump stage, so that the specified surface area 17 is acted upon by it.
- a surface area 26 is also provided on the axial wall 7 of the second pump stage, which area is delimited by a recess 27 in the pump wall 19 and is acted upon by the outlet pressure of the first pump stage through a channel 28 which is connected to the outlet region 12 of the first pump stage.
- This channel is designed as a bore, but can also be designed as a groove, as shown in broken lines in FIG. 3.
- This measure gives rise to 5 forces on the pump wheel during pump operation, which can be determined by selecting the sizes of the surface areas 17, 26 such that the excess force of the opposing forces is approximately equal to the load force existing due to the delivery pressure of the first pump stage in the direction of the first pump stage is. This makes it possible to loosely support the pump wheel 5 on the motor armature shaft 24, since almost no axial forces act on the pump wheel 5.
- the existing between the outlet and inlet area connecting channel 13 is formed by a radial extension 29 of a bore 30 receiving the impeller 5, the outlet area 12 of the The first side channel 10 and the suction area 14 of the second side channel 11 open into the connecting channel 13 in a ramp shape via an intermediate channel 31 (FIGS. 2 and 3), the connecting channel 13 having a complementary ramp 32 which increases or decreases following the radius of the extension 29 .
- FIG. 2 and 3 show views of the pump walls of the embodiment according to FIG. 1 seen in the direction of the arrow, FIG. 2 showing the first side channel 10 with suction area 15 and outlet area 12.
- the outlet region 12 opens into the intermediate channel 31, which ramps up from the base of the side channel and, as can be seen from FIG. 4, then opens out into the connecting channel 13.
- Fig. 3 shows the second side channel 11 in the same configuration as the first side channel 10, but rotated with respect to a reference point 35, which is given in all views of FIGS. 2 to 4, which, as already stated, achieves that in Seen in the axial direction of the pump wheel 5, a suction region 15 of the first pump stage is opposite the suction region 14 of the second pump stage and the outlet region 12 of the first pump stage is opposite an outlet region 16 of the second pump stage.
- Fig. 4 shows the pump wheel 5 and a part of the pump wall 19, in which the bore 30 for receiving the pump wheel 5 and the radial extension 29 to form the connecting channel 13 are arranged, in the same direction of the arrow as the view according to FIG. 2, however offset by the impeller width.
- the extension 29 shows the ramps 32 once in full view (right) and once in invisible view (left).
- the pump wheel 5 shows the blade ring 9 of the second pump stage and the recess 18, into which one or more drivers 22 project, which are arranged on the motor armature 21 and drive the pump wheel 5, and a cut-out section from which the blade ring 34 can be seen in the jacket surface 33 is.

Description
- Fig. 1 einen Längsschnitt einer Brennstoffpumpe;
- Fig. 2, 3 und 4 Ansichten von Einzelteilen der Pumpe nach Fig. 1.
