Definitions

  • the invention relates to a writing instrument comprising a container having an opening in which writing fluid is freely received, an at least partially capillary-shaped delivery line for writing fluid which connects the container for conveying writing fluid to the writing tip, and a capillary which is connected to the delivery line Storage.
  • Writing instruments of this type are a classic closed system in which the writing liquid is prevented from leaking by means of negative pressure.
  • the fountain pens that have been known for decades are based on such a system built up.
  • Writing instruments of this type have a particular defect that almost all users of fountain pens experienced more or less fatally. If the container of the writing instrument, in which the writing fluid is free, that is to say has not been taken up capillary, has been partially emptied by use, writing fluid escapes from the container as a result of the temperature-related expansion of air in the writing position of the writing instrument.
  • a capillary memory is provided, for example in the case of a fountain pen under the nib.
  • the capillarity of this memory must be so great that the writing fluid cannot escape from it in the writing position, but nevertheless so low that it does not fill up in the case of normal writing operation and would then no longer be receptive to air expansion in the aforementioned emergency.
  • Such a capillarity relation is realized to a certain extent in the classic fountain pen.
  • a writing instrument is known from CH-A-422 575 in which the writing tip is connected via a capillary delivery line to a container in which the writing fluid is located. Between the container and the writing tip, the capillary delivery line passes through a space in which a sponge-like material is arranged in order to absorb excess liquid, which material should be designed such that it does not absorb the writing liquid.
  • the capillary delivery line is not in direct contact with the sponge-like material serving as a storage device, but is surrounded by a sleeve in which a gap of 0.1 to 0.7 mm in width is provided, through which writing liquid can get into the sponge-like material .
  • a peculiarity of this known writing instrument is that due to the lack of direct contact between the capillary delivery line and the sponge-like material, air inclusions can have a disruptive effect, which is disadvantageous for the functional reliability.
  • the invention has for its object to provide a writing instrument of the type mentioned that works safely even with large fluctuations in air expansion and large volume of the writing fluid container, without an uncontrolled leakage of writing fluid from the writing instrument occurs, regardless of the current level of filling of the container, whereby the writing instrument should be easy and inexpensive to manufacture.
  • the main advantage of the writing instrument according to the invention is that, as desired, it works reliably even with large temperature fluctuations and the associated large air expansion limits, even with the largest volumes of writing fluid, for example 10 ml or more.
  • the main reason for this is that air can be continuously exchanged in both directions via the larger capillaries of the delivery line in the opening and, in parallel, a certain proportion of finer capillaries of the delivery line in the opening continuously ensures the conveyance of the writing liquid. This is not the case with writing implements of the type mentioned at the outset, for example with the known fountain pens which have defined capillaries of one size. There, an air lock in the capillary memory is sufficient to convert the system into undefined conditions, with the result that the writing fluid escapes undesirably.
  • the writing instrument 10 consists essentially of a housing 20 in which a container 11 for holding writing fluid 13 is arranged by means of a partition wall 21.
  • the partition wall 21 in the figures is only intended to represent a schematic delimitation of the container 11.
  • the container 11 can otherwise be designed in any suitable manner either as a direct part of the housing 20 or arranged in the housing 20 as a separate part.
  • a writing tip 15 protrudes from the housing 20 at one end in a known manner and can be designed in any suitable manner.
  • the housing interior 25, which is formed between the partition 21 and the writing tip 15, is connected via an air line 22 to the outside for the unhindered supply and removal of air.
  • an opening 12 of the container 11 is provided, which cf. 1, is closed by a capillary delivery line 14.
  • the capillary delivery line 14 extends from the Opening 12 to the writing tip 15, wherein the writing tip 15 can in principle also be formed integrally with the delivery line 14.
  • the conveying line 14 is in direct contact with a capillary storage 16 which, as shown in FIG. 1, is arranged directly around the capillary conveying line 16.
  • the capillarity of the capillary reservoir 16 is lower on average than the average capillarity of the delivery line 14 at least in the opening 12 of the container 11.
  • capillary storage 16 and delivery line 14 does not actually have to prevail in reality. Rather, it can be a mixture of porous and / or fibrous agents, which always have a distribution, cf. Fig. 2, on finer and larger capillaries within the respective material that forms the capillary storage 16 and the delivery line 14 is present.
  • the capillary material of the delivery line 14, which fills the opening 12 is mostly filled with writing liquid 13, whereas the largest capillary of the porous capillary means of the delivery line functions as an air inlet capillary, while the finer capillaries function as delivery line 14 to writing tip 15, cf. also Fig. 3.
  • the capillary store 16 can only fill to the extent that it has a proportion of capillaries which have a higher or the same capillarity than the capillaries which serve to convey air, that is to say all in the overlapping part 26 according to FIG. 2.
  • the capillary memory 16 normally remains empty. If there is an expansion of air in the container 11 as a result of an increase in temperature, writing liquid 13 is transferred through the opening 12 via the delivery line 14 into the capillary storage 16, ie this takes over the "excess" writing liquid 13 in this case and prevents uncontrolled escape of the writing liquid 13 from the Writing tip 15 or writing instrument 10.
  • the capillary reservoir 16 is extended into the area 19 of the bottom 18 of the container 11.
  • the embodiment according to FIG. 4 differs from that according to FIG. 6 in that, in contrast to FIG. 4, in which the capillary reservoir 16 is formally separate from the capillary delivery line 14, which is also formed up to the area 19 of the bottom 18 is separated, while the embodiment according to FIG. 6 is a material mixture with larger and smaller capillaries of porous material, which together form the capillary reservoir 16 and the delivery line 14.
  • the capillary storage or the unit of capillary storage 16 and delivery line 14 is encased by means of a separate tube 24, so that the leakage security is increased again, since in the writing position the flow of writing fluid 13, because this can only reach the delivery line 14 or the mixture of delivery line 14 and capillary storage 16 via the bottom area, is interrupted.
  • the capillary memory 16 then represents the actual reservoir of writing fluid from which writing is carried out.
  • the delivery line 14 and the capillary reservoir are designed as a single part, similar to the embodiment of FIG. 6, only in the embodiment of FIG. 5, the integral part consists of the delivery line 14 and the capillary reservoir 16 tapered to enter the opening.
  • the capillary part 140 of the delivery line 14 which is arranged in the opening 12, as a separate part.
  • the writing instrument 10 also functions when the writing fluid 13 is repeatedly transported back and forth between the container 11 and the capillary memory 16 in the event of temperature fluctuations. It is always ensured that all of the writing fluid 13 is continuously returned from the capillary storage 16 to the container 11, otherwise the capillary storage 16 would gradually overflow. Since the delivery line 14 is continuously wetted with writing fluid 13 at least in the area of the opening 12, air 23 cannot interrupt the backflow of the writing fluid 13, since a certain number of capillaries always ensure the transport of the writing fluid 13 in parallel with possible air inclusion.
